Mars Goes Retrograde – The War Dance

Mars Goes Retrograde

Mars went retrograde on 26 June 2018. Mars will be retrograde for two months, going direct again on 26 August 2018. Mars is the planet of action, so expect major things to happen in the coming months.

Mars retrograde happens at the same time with this year’ eclipse season so you can bet the coming months will bring life-changing events in your life. Karma (eclipses) and action (Mars) act as one. You will have the feeling you cannot escape your destiny.

Of course, you can try to run, but with Mars retrograde, it will be difficult to hide. He will find you – when retrograde, Mars takes his time.

Contrary to beliefs that things slow down when Mars is retrograde, Mars retrograde intensifies action. Things may slow down in your life, but you will take action more forcefully than usual, and from a more authentic place.

You will embody Mars, you will act like Mars – you will be Mars. You will finally act on your true desires, and do what you wanted to do since Mars started its cycle on 26 July 2017.

When Mars is retrograde, it is always opposite the Sun. It is closest to the Earth and shines at its brightest. The Earth is basically between Mars and the Sun, becoming the mediator between the divine consciousness (the Sun) and action (Mars). Mars retrograde is manifestation in action!

Mars opposite Sun is like a Full Moon of Mars and intensifies, brings to culmination whatever Mars stands for in your natal chart.

Why Mars Retrograde Is So Important

Mercury retrograde might be more popular because it happens more frequently (Mercury goes retrograde every 3-4 months and is retrograde 20% of time), but Mars retrograde is more important, because it happens only once every 2 years. Last time Mars was retrograde was April – June 2016.

It’s the rarest of retrogrades and also the longest of all the personal planets. That’s why the most significant events in one’s life tend to happen when Mars goes retrograde.

Mars goes retrograde at 9° Aquarius, and goes direct at 28° Capricorn. This means Mars spends two months covering only 12° of the zodiac. Have a look where you have 28° Capricorn – 9° Aquarius in your chart. There is something about that part of your chart you need to understand, to revise, and ultimately take action upon.

These are the most important aspects Mars makes during the retrograde:

  • Mars goes retrograde June 26
  • Mars is conjunct the South Node on July 20
  • Mars opposes Sun on 26 July 26
  • Mars is conjunct the Total Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius on July 27
  • Mars is square Uranus on August 1
  • Mars re-enters Capricorn on August 12
  • Mars goes direct on August 27

Mars – The Hero, The Warrior

Mars is the archetype of the hero and the warrior. Whenever you are fighting for something, whenever you say ‘no’ to what goes against your will, you are embodying Mars.

Mars has free will. The only personal planet that travels across the zodiac on its own (not along with the Sun) is Mars. No other personal planet (Mercury, Venus) has really a will on its own because both Mercury and Venus never travel too far away from the Sun.

But Mars does. When you act from your Mars power, you have the ability to make it on your own, against any rules and obstacles. Mars brings transformation in your life. If Pluto, the higher octave of Mars brings long-lasting, complex transformation, Mars brings rapid transformation. Your life gets changed when Mars is strong in the sky, like it is now.

Mars goes retrograde in Aquarius and Capricorn. The signs Mars is transiting will give you deeper insights into what this transformation is about.

Aquarius is a paradoxical sign. On one hand, it’s a fixed sign, which means it’s stable and inflexible. On the other hand, Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, which is the most unpredictable planet in the sky.

Aquarians are known to be unique, special and original – like no one else. In the same time, Aquarius is all about teamwork, groups of people and working towards a greater goal, rather than an individual goal.

How can we reconcile these apparent conceptual conflicts?

Aquarius is a fixed air sign. Fixed air is not an easy concept to grasp. You can probably relate to fixed earth (Taurus) – and you can instantly picture a piece of land. You could also eventually picture fixed fire (Leo) and see the Sun, or fixed water (Scorpio) and picture some ice (BTW, did you know that Scorpio’s ruling planet, Pluto is covered in ice?). But what about fixed air? (Aquarius).

Aquarius And The Invisible Threads

A good way to think about fixed air is invisible (air) threads (fixed). Aquarius is what is stable (fixed) yet invisible (air) to the eye. Invisible ties are the unwritten rules of the society. It is what keeps people together and makes them loyal to each other. It is what makes friends stay friends even if they live in different parts of the globe.

Invisible threads

This is why Aquarius seems unpredictable…but just because you don’t see these invisible ties, it doesn’t mean they are not there.

Remeber how Uranus, the ruling planet of Aquarius has been discovered? With a telescope. Uranus was always there, but people couldn’t see it, within the technological limitations of the time. This is a good way of thinking about Aquarius.

There is another apparent conflict with Aquarius – does Aquarius make an individual unique, or a team player?

A good example for this is team sports: each player has an individual role: quarterback, center, linebacker, cornerback. But all players work towards a common goal – to win the game. Aquarius is exactly about putting the unique creative energy of each individual into use, to create something greater than the sum of its parts.

Aquarian teamwork is not the assembly line workers who may work towards the same goal, but perform the same repetitive activity. Aquarian teamwork is more like an agile scrum team, or a boardroom: each person has their unique role, yet they work towards a common goal, a goal that is beyond their personal concern.

Mars retrograde spends most of the time in Aquarius, however, it does go back into Capricorn from August 13 until August 26.

Go Back To The Drawing Board

When a retrograde planet moves back in the previous sign, is giving you a second chance. This is when things from the past come back to you so you can finally deal with them. Mars’ journey back into Capricorn is your second chance to get it right in the matters of the house where you have Capricorn.

Let’s take an example: let’s say Aquarius is your 8th house, and Capricorn your 7th house. In the first 2 months of Mars retrograde, 8th house themes will come into focus: maybe you need to get your joint finances in order, ask for a loan, or pay your taxes. You will be busy with this from 26 June (when Mars goes retrograde) until 12 August. From 13 August on, your focus will shift to the 7th house. You will have a second chance to fix some issues related – this time – to your relationships and partnerships (7th house themes) which in turn, will help you with your 8th house matters. Maybe you need to set better, fairer rules in the relationship (7th house) so you can proceed to the next level (8th house). This is how this retrograde works.

Capricorn and Aquarius have many things in common (they are both traditionally ruled by Saturn) but the fundamental distinction is that Capricorn sets the vision.

Capricorn is the Manager who sets the vision, who sets the strategy. And Aquarius is the Team who makes it happen.

Mars going retrograde from Aquarius to Capricorn means you need to go back to the drawing board and re-adjust your strategy.

If something in your life is not working (look where you have Aquarius, to get some clues about what exactly is not working), then this retrograde is your chance to make it work again.

Instead of getting stuck in doing the same thing over and over again, go back and revise your strategy. Go back to the drawing board.

Ask yourself: What battle am I fighting? What am I really trying to achieve? What is my true goal? What is my strategy?

Mars is the planet of action, drive, and decisiveness. Is about acting from your instinct. In the past, acting from your instinct usually meant acting against someone’s else instinct. It meant going to war. Things have changed, and with time we learned to work with the energy of Mars without causing too much harm to others, but ultimately Mars is about acting form your instinct, even if it goes against the whole world.

Haka – The War Dance

If we put all the symbolism together – Aquarius (teamwork), Capricorn (strategy), Mars (action) that flows from Aquarius to Capricorn, I cannot NOT think of the Haka.

Haka is a ceremonial Maori war dance that has been popularized by the New Zealand rugby team. The All Blacks (New Zealand rugby team) perform this war dance before every rugby match. Haka is a posture dance with shouted vocal chanting accompanied by hand actions, foot stamping, and facial expressions.

It is very powerful to watch and it looks like it’s working. Despite its small population, New Zealand has the most successful rugby team in the world.

Haka is a war dance, meant to warn the opponent that they are better off to stay away from trouble. Haka is an honest war dance – the team shows the opponent what they are up to, what their goal is. It’s a territory marking activity: “You can’t cross here”.

Who knows how many wars could have been avoided if the opponents had been straightforward about their intentions and about their abilities. When Mars slows down and gets closer to the Earth like now, he is very straightforward about his intentions.

Ultimately, the upcoming Mars retrograde will ask you to perform a war dance and get to the core of what you want.

Questions to reflect upon when Mars is retrograde:

  • Am I crystal clear about what I want to achieve?
  • Do I act with integrity?
  • Does my goal serve a higher purpose?
  • Is there any way I can avoid ‘bloodshed’ and still, have my objectives met?
  • Which areas of my life need honest, decisive action?

You will feel the Mars retrograde energy more strongly if you have planets or angles between 28° Capricorn – 9° Aquarius and 28° Cancer – 9° Leo.

Full Moon In Gemini And Mercury Retrograde – The Symphony Of Truth

The Full Moon in Gemini takes place on December 3rd, the same day that Mercury goes retrograde. This Full Moon is also a Supermoon, which means its energy is going to be amplified.

The Moon is most powerful when at Full Moon, when her light outshines the light of the Sun and our emotions are stronger than our Solar consciousness. Just look at the Full Moon. The Full Moon is honest, the Full Moon reveals herself entirely. When full, the Moon wants to expose everything, to show things as they really are.

The Full Moon on the 3rd of December is in Gemini, and will be all about illuminating the truth.

Full Moon Gemini Mercury Retro

But if you want to find it, get ready to get your mind blown.

The Full Moon is in an exact square to Neptune, forming a mutable T-square – we have the Moon (in Gemini), Sun (in Sagittarius), and Neptune (in Pisces). Facts (air, Gemini) come into conflict with our faith (fire, Sagittarius) and our emotions (water, Pisces).

In this symphony where the mind, the spirit and the feelings – all want to get their voice heard, it is worth noticing what keeps them together – that is, the mutable energy. Gemini, Sagittarius and Pisces are all mutable signs. The only constant is change.

Jazz is the only type of music characterized by spontaneity and improvisation. Jazz payers go on stage often without knowing what they are going to play. They have one thing in common: the willingness to listen and to adapt to what other members are playing, the ability to improvise, and as a result, they create something that is greater than the sum of its parts. Jazz music in very Neptunian and Gemini-like in nature.

To tune into the Full Moon in Gemini you have to be a bit like a jazz player.

To say Neptune will make this Full Moon interesting is an understatement. Neptune is the abstract understanding of life. Where the mind fails to understand abstract concepts such as time, space, infinity, Neptune has the answers. But Neptune’s answers are not clear definitions, cook book recipes.

“Lady, if I told you, your mind would explode.” — Louis Armstrong, when a woman asked him what he thought about when he played

Neptune got the bad rap of planet of confusion and  lies. But how many of Neptune’s lies are really lies? And how many are truths in disguise, truths we don’t want to accept because we don’t understand, and out of comfort, we label them as lies? Neptune is about going beyond the here and how, and beyond form and spirit.

The Neptune square to the Full Moon can make you doubt your own sanity, but if you push through, you can go through to the other side. You can finally understand things you were never able to understand before.

Let’s not forget that the Full Moon is in Gemini, the sign of the mind.

Gemini is all about observable facts.  Gemini’s superpower is its ability to pay attention to what is going on and discover the world though immediate experience.

Remember when you were a child and you were curious about everything? Children learn how to speak, how to learn, how to relate to the world through trial and error. So does Gemini, and even when we grow up, our innate curiosity to explore and make sense of the world is what keeps us sane.

Sagittarius, on the other hand, believes without seeking evidence. Sagittarius is the sign of faith. If Gemini is Google, Sagittarius is Wikipedia. If Gemini is one detail at a time, Sagittarius is the big picture.

Sagittarius is the cook book recipe. It’s the news on television. Is the books you read, the ‘truths’ you don’t question.

The full Moon on the Gemini / Sagittarius axis is a quest for the truth. Do you explore the world in your terms (Gemini) and risk to have a one-side vision, or do you follow the tested path, with the risk that the path you walk is someone’s else (Sagittarius)? The Full Moon, which is an opposition, will strike to find a balance. As a result, you can have an epiphany.

You can have a sudden and striking realization, something you completely overlooked can finally come to place to give you an unblurred vision. Mercury, the ruler of the Full Moon, stands still in the sky in that very moment, preparing to turn retrograde.

When Mercury changes course its energy is the most powerful. Mercury turns retrograde in the last degree of Sagittarius.

Sagittarius stands for the big picture, for the truth…or more exactly, what you believe to be the truth.

Retrogrades are about going back in time, to review and process events and dynamics that have not been fully processed. What knowledge have you taken for granted?

Mercury will walk the sky path from 30° Sagittarius back to 13° Sagittarius twice – firstly in retrograde from December 3rd until December 22nd to ‘fix the problems’. The 2nd time Mercury (now direct) will walk the path will be from December 22nd until January 10th.

Mercury goes retrograde exactly at the time of the Full Moon, just when he was about to complete his journey in Sagittarius.

Mercury in Sagittarius is about the big picture – Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius will ask you to de-construct the big picture and look at each individual piece of the puzzle. How do you arrive to conclusions? How does your mind really work?

Most of the time, our decisions are emotional, reptilian, and the mind just comes with a narrative to justify what our reptilian brain has already chosen.

Mercury will press the rewind button in the last degree of Sagittarius. “Wait a minute…just when I thought I got this right, just when I thought I am done with the Sagittarian lessons, there is still something that I don’t quite get”.

Right at the end of Sagittarius, Mercury is also conjunct Saturn, which is about to leave Sagittarius in the coming days. Before Saturn leaves Sagittarius for good, he passes the torch to Mercury and says: “Go back. See if you did not miss anything. But this time, take it slowly, be diligent and cautious just like I am. Don’t let anything escape your sight”.

Mercury is in detriment in Sagittarius. The path he is asked to explore is awkward and unfamiliar.  Not only that, but he has to walk it backwards. Not an easy task, but he has no choice. He needs to clear the path and sort things out.

This is not the path of knowledge as we know it. Mercury’s backwards journey in Sagittarius will expose a basic truth: you cannot ‘download’ knowledge, you cannot copy paste it, you cannot  take it from someone else. You have to walk the path yourself.

Just imagine what would have happened if Adam and Eve hadn’t been tempted to eat off the tree of knowledge, hadn’t been seduced into taking a shortcut.

Today, in the era of instant gratification of knowledge, the message of the Full Moon in Gemini with Mercury retrograde conjunct Saturn couldn’t be more actual: Take your time, do the research – you only get to knowledge through real experience, by walking the path yourself. There is no such thing as universal truth, you have to find your own.

The path of true knowledge combines Gemini’s quest for discovery with a beginner’s mind, with Sagittarius’ faith that we already have all the answers we need, and that the Universe has our back.

The coming weeks are a time to (re)discover the truth, beyond any stereotypical ideas and outdated beliefs, a truth that shines so bright that cannot be dimmed.

Mercury Goes Retrograde – How Not Only to Survive, But to Thrive During the Next 3 Weeks of Mercury Retrograde

Mercury stations and turns retrograde on August 12th, 2017. The retrograde will last for 23 days, until Mercury turns direct again on September 4th.

The current Mercury Retrograde cycle is closely linked to the Solar Eclipse in Leo on August 21st. Gravitating around the Sun, Mercury will turn direct exactly at 28°, which is the degree of the Solar Eclipse in Leo. Some things related to the Solar Eclipse will come to light around September 4th.

mercury-retrograde

What is the Theme of the Current Mercury Retrograde

Thanks to the strong connection with the fateful Eclipse, this Mercury cycle will give you great insights into what it is that keeps you away from the path of your purpose.

The theme of the Mercury Retrograde cycle is ‘complete the incompletions’, or more exactly, purge those patterns of thoughts and behaviors that prevent you from accessing the fullness of your being.

Because Mercury will spend most of the retrograde in Virgo, the “cleanser” of the Zodiac, Mercury will analyze, purge and cleanse what needs to be cleansed.

This Mercury Retrograde will clear the clutter of our minds, by breaking uncomfortable mental and emotional patterns which no longer serve us. Mercury Retrograde takes place during the Eclipse season, the time of the year when our soul realigns with the path of our purpose. We need to get ready for it, and our mind, our Mercury, this guardian of the Self, needs to get ready too.

Whatever it is that keeps you stuck in the past, needs to be purged now. Clean your mind of any outdated beliefs, negative thoughts, compulsive behaviors, preconceptions and prejudices that hinder your growth.

To achieve this, do what a Virgo would do: meticulously identify these outdated thoughts, cleanse them out of your system, and replace them with brighter thoughts.

This is not the usual Mercury clean up. This time you need to go deeper.  This time you really need to confront those unhealthy thoughts you’ve been avoiding for so long. All the deep ingrained judgements, all the resentments that toxify your mind and your spirit, all the lies, the fears, the limiting beliefs you’ve been telling yourself for too long.

What is Mercury Retrograde

Mercury Retrograde. We know all about it. The dreaded time of the year when we must back up our computers and watch what we are saying.

Mercury Retrograde has gained a negative reputation, but if we really want to understand what Mercury Retrograde is really about, we need to go back to basics and do what our ancestors were doing for thousands of years: look at the sky and observe.

Mercury is perhaps the most misunderstood personal planet. The close proximity to the Sun makes it difficult to observe and interpret.

If you look at the sky, you will notice Mercury in the evening sky, only to see it after a few weeks appearing to fall towards the Sun. It would then appear again in the morning sky and slowly climb away, just to fall back in again towards the Sun. Mercury never strays far from the Sun!

When a planet is at least 15° away from the Sun, the planet can express its qualities freely, unobstructed by the rays of the Sun. Most planets spend most of their cycles far away from the Sun. But not Mercury. Mercury spends most of the time so close to the Sun, so close to its rays, that it is literally invisible in the sky.  Its energy is blended with the energy of the Sun.

And what does Mercury stand for? The Mind. What does the Sun stand for? The Self. That’s why it is so natural for us humans to identify with our mind. It is so close the connection between Mercury and the Sun (the Self) that we literally believe that we are what we think. We are one with our mind.

Mercurial energy is the most familiar energy to the Self, but ironically, it is in the same time, our biggest blind spot.  The Messenger God is our constant companion, active in our thinking, planning, worrying, speaking, negotiation, shopping, writing, moving from one place to another.

And what happens when Mercury is retrograde? It comes even closer to the Sun, it comes even closer to us, it merges with us.

That’s why if we tend to have difficulties with integrating Mercury’s energy when Mercury is in direct motion, we will have even more difficulties to integrate it when the planet is retrograde. But we experience difficulties only when we resist the energy of Mercury, when we resist change, shift, growth.

If we are not “awake”, if we don’t live in awareness, during Mercury Retrograde we are usually forced to “wake up” and take care of what we’ve been neglecting. For this, we might need to dodge all the chaos we’ve been creating while asleep.

The Two Phases of Mercury Retrograde

Every Mercury Retrograde is a little different. You’re harmonizing with a new world each time. However, regardless of ever-changing sky, each single Mercury Retrograde consists of two main phases.

The 1st retrograde phaseAnalyze: From Mercury Retrograde until Mercury’s conjunction to the Sun –  August 12th, 2017 – August 25th, 2017 (14 days)

During this phase Mercury is contemplative, introspective and seeks inner meaning. We now want to discover the reason, the meaning and the purpose behind everything. Right now, we are unlikely to be satisfied with easy, superficial answers. This is a great time to analyze and reflect. Make sure you have a diary to record your stream of thought.

The 2nd retrograde phase – Observe and Insight: From Mercury’s conjunction to the Sun until Mercury’s goes direct –  August 26th, 2017 – September 3rd, 2017 (9 days)

Mercury is now “born again” with a clear, uncorrupted sense of purpose. When it meets with the Sun, Mercury brings the its qualities and puts them into the perspective of the Sun, the Self. The Mind becomes one with the Self, in full alignment with the purpose of the Sun. Mercury now takes what he has learned in the previous cycle and brings it to the “next level” of awareness.

The sabian symbol for Sun conjunct Mercury at 4° Virgo is “Black and while children play together happily” symbolizing not only overcoming the biases of the mind, but also bringing together and harmonizing the yin and the yang of the mind, the left and the right hemisphere of the brain. Emotions and facts are now in sync. The process of creation can begin.

Is Mercury Retrograde a Bad Thing?

Mercury Retrograde is not a bad thing. When retrograde, Mercury actually travels faster than the Earth (that’s why as seen from Earth it appears to go backwards) so its energy is intensified. Like any other planet, Mercury has a goal – its goal is to make you aware of what is really important in the realms of the mind, communication, travel, commerce, interactions with others, writing, speaking, the internet.

If your computer crashes during Mercury Retrograde, is maybe because you need to stay away from distractions and pay attention to other things. If you get stuck in traffic on your way to an important meeting is maybe because that meeting was not that important, and Mercury wants you to be honest about what really matters.

Pay attention to those thoughts that come to you right now. Whatever it is, however unpleasant, requires your attention. Don’t forget we are in the middle of the Eclipse season. These messages are very important to your soul evolution. You have to listen to what your mind wants to tell you.

Now is the time to deal with all the incompletions, all the broken promises or vows, all the unfulfilled hopes, and to do that, you have to be radically honest during the process. Will that be easy? No.

Is it possible to be completely honest without hurting a person’s feelings? Imagine you tell your best friend she does not look that great with her new haircut. Will she be happy to hear it? Probably not. Imagine you tell your partner that you are not that sure he or she is the one, but you enjoy being in a relationship with them out of convenience. Will they be happy to hear this? Probably not.

Same with you. Or even more so. It is difficult to be completely honest with yourself. We have a natural tendency to delay experiencing the facts, the truth, which is exactly what Mercury stands for, the here and the now.

This Mercury Retrograde cycle is about keeping your mind open. Being willing to question yourself and dig deep to get to the Source of things, so healing can happen at the root.

Uranus Goes Retrograde – Everything Turns Upside Down

Uranus goes retrograde on August 7, 2018, at 2° Taurus, moves back into Aries on November 8th, 2018 and finally goes direct again on January 7, 2019, at 28° Aries.

The world won’t literally turn upside down (hopefully!), but Uranus stationary retrograde will definitely bring a lot of surprises, especially now in the middle of the Eclipse season.

Uranus is different. Uranus is nothing like other planets. The only way to understand Uranus is to not try to understand it at all. At least not with our Mercurial, facts-driven mind. Uranus is the flash of insight that comes from the sky. It does not come from your mind, or from the world around you, not from the word as you know it. It comes from the sky above.

Uranus is all about surprises. You cannot understand Uranus, prepare for Uranus, master Uranus. The nature of Uranus is Change and its role is to take you by surprise and turn your life upside down. Will that be possible if you will attempt to “tame” Uranus, to prepare for it? No. Uranus energy comes like a strike of lightning.

uranus-retrograde

Uranus it is literally the strike of lighting from the sky. Roy Sullivan, nicknamed “human lightning conductor”, the man who has been struck by lightning for a record of 7 times (and survived them all) has his chart ruler, Mercury in a very tight conjunction to Uranus at 0° Aquarius! (Uranus is the ruler of Aquarius).

Uranus is the opposite of Saturn. If with Saturn you know what are you going to get, with Uranus you never know what you get. If Saturn rewards hard work and punishes you when you don’t put the effort, Uranus can bring you a fortune even when you don’t deserve it and can disrupt your life even if you’ve done everything right. Uranus will make sure that change happens, whether you like it or not.

Uranus is about freedom, innovation, collective memory, sudden change, sudden illumination, breakthroughs, disruption, creativity, liberation, about your true, authentic self.

While Uranus direct is a time to make changes in your environment, in the outside world, Uranus retrograde is a time for an internal change. This is a time to revisit and reconnect with your sense of freedom.

This time, it’s you who needs to change, not the world around you.  Uranian energy is like a scissor which cuts the ties of attachment from the past and pushes you to experience the world from a completely different perspective.

The shift will take place in the realm of the unconscious. Resist the temptation to over analyze your thoughts and actions. Remember, it is not Mercury which turns retrograde. With Uranus, the shift takes place in your subtle mind.  Allow the Universe to talk to you in Its language, not in yours.

Uranus retrograde can be experienced in a myriad of ways. You can expect one of the following ways Uranian energy can play out:

  • Freedom – Uranus is all about allowing your spirit to flow freely, unrestricted by false demands or pretense. Uranus retrograde will bring you the key to your cage once you understand that the only freedom that is, you already have. “You can chain me, you can torture me, you can even destroy this body, but you will never imprison my mind” – Ghandi
  • Reboot – think about electricity, its nature is on and off, 0 and 1. Uranus will teach you that you can be 100% “on” in a moment and then completely switch off and reboot. Whatever you do, start with a beginner’s mind. A good visualization exercise is to imagine you are an alien, you landed on Earth and you want to understand what the human race is all about. Approach life with curiosity.
  • A desire to get real and be honest with yourself – no more lies, no more comfort, it is time to face the fears that hold you back, get real about what you want, embrace your heart’s desire and go after it! Become the person who you really want to be.
  • A desire to completely change your life. If you are not happy with your job change it. If you are not happy with your relationship, leave it. Do whatever you need to do to, change the things that aren’t working and move on to something better.
  • Trauma – Uranus’ station can bring into your awareness some long forgotten memories. Any issues that you, or your ancestors (Uranus, together with Chiron rule genetic memory) have not been dealt with, can come to the surface now and bring healing.
  • Anxiety – because of the disruptive quality of Uranus, we can experience fear and anxiety. Remember it is absolutely normal to experience fear and anxiety when you are about to change something in your life. Make friends with your anxiety and let it propel you forward!
  • Flashes of intuitive energy – the higher guidance can come to you out of nowhere. Situations that seemed impossible will begin to work themselves out. Uranus wants to liberate your mind from dogmas so you can think free. A free mind has nothing to prove to anyone. It is what is, and it is not what it’s not, and it is fine with that.

When it stations retrograde, Uranus applies a trine to Saturn at 2° Capricorn. This is a very positive aspect and will help you find the right balance between structure and discipline (Saturn), and freedom and authenticity (Uranus).

Normally, people born in Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) or people with a lot of Earth in their chart can find this intense Uranian energy difficult to deal with, whereas people born in Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius), in Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) or people with a lot of Air or Mutable planets in their chart will thrive during the Uranus station.

If you have personal planets or angles at 2° in Taurus or Scorpio your life will experience profound changes now. Look in which house the transit takes place to get more insights.

Chiron Goes Retrograde – Unifying The Parts

Chion Retrograde

Chiron retrograde gives you the opportunity to dive into the healing waters of Chiron and clean any wounds that stop you from integrating all the parts of yourself, and become a whole healthy human being.

There is no wonder the Chiron’s symbol is a key. Chiron unlocks the secret doors of our psyche, allowing the divine energy of the outer planets to flow into what we call the reality of our body, symbolized by Saturn.

IMG_0077
Christian Schloe – “Unlock”

Chiron orbits between Saturn and Uranus / Neptune. Saturn is the last planet we can see with the naked eye in the sky, and his beautiful rings are a metaphor for the limitations of our human existence.

The outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) represent what is beyond the known, out of what we can grasp with our limited cognitive functions.

Chiron is, therefore, the link between the two worlds. Chiron’s role is to channel the ethereal, intangible energy of the outer planets into the structures, the realities of Saturn. That’s why Chiron makes such a great healer, especially in the energy healing field.

Chiron And Healing

Unfortunately, we have not been trained to delve into Chiron’s powers. Our ancestors, especially the hunter-gatherer type societies, were in a way much more connected to nature. In the past, every village had a medicine man or a Shaman.

The initiation into shamanism started after a so-called shamanic illness. Now we start to better understand the concept of “wounded healer” that Chiron has been associated with. It is only by paying attention to our wounds, that we can get to wholeness, to healing, and even more, become a channel for the divine energy to flow into the material world as defined by Saturn.

But what is stopping us from accessing the divine energy that is all around? The reason we can’t easily access it is that we humans are a sum of conflicting, sometimes broken parts.

Think of an engine of a car. If any part of the engine doesn’t work, the car doesn’t move. In the same way, we cannot be whole and move forward until we learn how to get all the parts of ourselves work and cooperate toward the same end goal.

Let’s come back to the mythology of Chiron. Because Chiron was born half human half horse, he was rejected and abandoned by his mother. Indeed Chiron transits always bring some sort of rejection, and people with strong Chiron in their chart are usually the outcasts of the society in their early life.

Fortunately, Apollo, the God of prophecy, healing, music, and poetry adopted Chiron and taught him all that he knew. That’s why in astrology Chiron is the symbol of the teacher, the prophet, and the astrologer. (Chiron, together with Uranus are the best  indicators of a gift for astrology in the natal chart).

Chiron – A Hybrid Of Matter And Spirit

Just like Chiron was half human, half horse, half mortal, half immortal, we are too a hybrid of matter and spirit. There are parts of us we accept and identify with, parts of us we despise and reject, and parts of us we don’t even acknowledge.

In an unevolved state, Chiron is linked to guilt and bullying. The bully (both the bully and the bullied are the signature of Chiron by the way) sees those parts of you that you are ashamed of and exposes them mercilessly. You feel hurt when someone exposes your wound. But this is only when you haven’t learned how to integrate that wounded part of you.

The purpose of Chiron retrograde is to point towards whatever needs to be acknowledged, so it can be healed.

When you fully accept and integrate all the parts of yourself, when nothing can affect you anymore, the bullying stops. There’s nothing left to be ashamed about. You are you, the sum of all your parts.

And when you accept yourself, the magic happens.  The divine energy starts flowing effortlessly through you, you become a channel from pure energy into physical form. You are healed, and you become healing.

Chiron Retrograde – Unifying The Broken Parts

Chiron retrograde is a great time to tune inside ourselves and acknowledge that we are a sum of parts. What prevents us from unifying these parts is often some sort of energy blockage. It is critical we identify these blockages. Without unifying all our parts, including those we are ashamed of, we cannot find that kind of inner balance that leads to healing and spiritual growth.

The best and easiest way to work with Chiron retrograde starts with reframing the beliefs you have about the unseen energy around you. Do you believe it exists? Or you are not sure? Do you believe that is “maybe” exists? It’s worth knowing that the reason shamans can work with energy is that they believe – literally – in its existence.

Often for shamans, there is nothing extra spiritual about the energy of the plant or of the animal. Shamans literally believe that the plant’s spirit is real, just like the plant itself, and that’s why they are able to communicate and work with the spirit of the plant.

Chiron retrograde helps you become more aware of the energy around you and learn how to channel it into your body to unblock any blockage, fix anything that is broken, and unify the parts that make you the wholesome human being that you are.

Chiron Retrograde Meditation

You can practice working with Chiron’s energy with a classical body scan meditation (there are many examples of guided body scan meditations on the internet). Put your awareness on each part of your body, from top to the bottom. Notice the place in your body where you feel low energy or restriction. How does that energy feel life? How does it look like? Do you notice any color, any feeling, any texture?

Now imagine a flow of pure bright energy pouring into the area you feel restriction from above (the top of your head) and from below (the sole of your feet). Notice the vortex of energy moving through your body, repairing the broken area.

Five Planets Retrograde In April – How To Survive Them

In April we have a record number of 5 (FIVE) planets retrograde. The Universe is asking us to “sort out” our life and redefine our reality and how we operate in it. This retrograde period is “three-dimensional” as it will ask us to look at ourselves (our thoughts, our communication – Mercury and our set of values – Venus) at our environment (Jupiter and Saturn) and at how everything  fits together in the grand scheme of things (Pluto).

5 retrograde planets

When is so much retrograde power in the air, we need to slow down any pay attention. Old patterns of thinking and old habits that no longer serve us will be brought to our awareness and challenged.

What is even more interesting is that 4 planets out of the 5 actually change direction in April. Yes, only Jupiter is already retrograde and won’t change direction. All the other planets station and change direction in April, increasing their influence few days before and after their station:

  • Saturn turns retrograde on April 6th at 27° Sagittarius
  • Mercury turns retrograde on April 9th at 4° Taurus
  • Venus turns direct on April 15th at 26° Pisces
  • Pluto turns retrograde on April 20th at 19° Capricorn

So if you have planets or angles around 27° Sagittarius, 4° Taurus, 26° Pisces or 19° Capricorn you will be especially affected. Pay attention especially if you have planets around 26°-27° in any Mutable sign (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) because the square between Venus and Saturn, – both stationary – will hit you hard.

Retrograde periods are good times to remember, re-assess , re-think, repair ,  restructure, re-invent  anything that needs a “RE” in your life.

And although the world will seem to “slow down”,  for some of us things will feel “just right”. Yes, if you have in your natal chart 4, 5 or even more planets retrograde then you will rather feel “in sync” with this energy, especially if you have a combination of Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn or Pluto retrograde.

For people with none, 1 or maximum 2 planets retrograde, things will be quite different. For example, I don’t have any planet retrograde. Everytime there are 4 or more planets retrograde I feel very tired, that’s why I learned to schedule holidays around the retrogrades and take the opportunity to recharge my batteries.

Now let’s have a look at how to deal with each of these retrogrades – focus on the one affecting you the most:

Saturn and Venus (26°-27° mutable signs)

I group them together because they are at the same mathematical degree and in square – so if you have planets around 26-27° in Mutable signs both Venus and Saturn stations will affect you.

The transit is quite heavy and will very likely ask you to sort out some emotional baggage from your life – old lovers, events from the past, buried feelings of rejection, isolation, and loneliness.

“The only baggage you can bring is all that you can’t leave behind” – Venus square Saturn will ask you to do some soul searching and decide what are you going to keep in this baggage. What are those key values that you cannot live without?

Anything else can be left behind. Remember, you will carry this luggage for the rest of your life (or at least until you have another potent Venus transit) – so you want to keep it light. How much are you willing to carry on your back from now on?

Now is your opportunity to really incorporate the Saturnine lessons. Your heart will be stronger and wiser after this process. And because Chiron is conjunct Venus, the opportunity for healing is real. Old wounds may the toughest to heal, but it is when we take the courage to face them, that we can release them and set ourselves free.

What to do about Venus retrograde: Make a list with your values, everything that is dear to you. For each value associate an object. How much does the object weight? Write it down – how many pounds/kilos? Now sum everything up. How heavy it is? What do you need to cut from that list so you leave only few items that you can carry on lightly?

Mercury (4° Taurus)

The lesson of this Mercury station is sustained focus. A Mercury Taurus retrograde cycle is here to teach us to focus our mind and be resilient against distractions.

What to do about Mercury retrograde: Make a list with all the worries, all the distractions, all the unfinished tasks that clutter your mind and affect your focus. Then “schedule” 1 hour per day to solve them. You may notice that by simply writing down your unfinished tasks and worries on a piece of paper, by “acknowledging” them, your mind can finally relax and focus on things that are more important. You can do this exercise anytime, best to do it around April 19th when Mercury and Sun will be in an inferior conjunction. Later in April you may discover you have found some innovative solutions for some of your worries, as Mercury will spend quite a lot of time near Uranus.

Pluto (19° Capricorn)

Pluto will activate the Jupiter Uranus opposition, making this station very confrontational – BUT also thanks to the progressive energy of Jupiter and Uranus, this station will give you an unique opportunity to achieve great progress in the area of your life (the house) transited by Pluto.

When direct, Pluto transforms matter and energy from one state to another. When retrograde, Pluto purges the “toxins” from the body, the mind, the spirit, so that a new cycle of life can emerge. What needs to be purged from your life?  Pluto stationary retrograde will ask you to allow natural death to take its course for anything that no longer serves you.  Let nature have its way. You will not only “survive” without this debrief, but you will be better equipped for the future.

What to do about Pluto retrograde: Keep a diary and write down in detail each event, each thought, each feeling that triggers a defense mechanism inside you. For each of these items, write down what are you afraid of losing if you “submit” to change. And then write down what could be the possible “benefits” for each of these changes.

Sun Opposition Mars

If you felt frustrated and annoyed in the last couple of days – an astral explanation for this is the recent Sun-Mars opposition.

Sun-Opposite-Mars

We can only have an opposition between Mars and Sun when Mars is retrograde.

This also means that Mars is at his closest distance from the Earth. If you look for him in the night sky, Mars is full of light now, like a knight in shining armor, brighter than ever!

So we have the hero – a knight called Mars, in an epic battle with his father, the Sun. The problem is Mars and Sun are at the greatest distance from each other. A physical confrontation is not possible. Still, the opposition to the Sun puts Mars to a test of strength. But what is Mars really fighting? Again remember Mars is close to the Earth, so all that he can really do is deal with “earthy” matters.

The magic of understanding the Mars-Sun opposition is realizing the hero’s (Mars) greatest opponent is his own shadow. His real battle is with the forces of his unconscious.

The role of the Mars-Sun opposition is to facilitate greater awareness of oneself and others, by challenging our “earthy” limitations. What is behind the anger? What are the material things that block you from having more initiative, from reaching your goals?

5 Planets Retrograde

In the last few weeks, having 5 planets retrograde was certainly not easy (now we have 4, as Jupiter turned direct on the 9th of May). Last time we had 5 planets retrograde was 10 years ago! Retrogrades are a time for reevaluating choices, and turning inwards. Things just don’t seem to work as they used to.

5-planets-retrograde

But – by coincidence – or maybe not, because there are not such things as coincidences in astrology 🙂 – during this retrograde period we have a very fortunate earth grand trine supported by Jupiter, Pluto, and several planets in Taurus.

With the retrograde period falling in the sign of Taurus – the sign of nature and matter – we have an amazing opportunity to slow down, tune into deeper connections – that otherwise get overlooked – with our surroundings and with ourselves, and understand at a deeper level the language of nature.
