Mars Goes Retrograde – The War Dance

Mars Goes Retrograde

Mars went retrograde on 26 June 2018. Mars will be retrograde for two months, going direct again on 26 August 2018. Mars is the planet of action, so expect major things to happen in the coming months.

Mars retrograde happens at the same time with this year’ eclipse season so you can bet the coming months will bring life-changing events in your life. Karma (eclipses) and action (Mars) act as one. You will have the feeling you cannot escape your destiny.

Of course, you can try to run, but with Mars retrograde, it will be difficult to hide. He will find you – when retrograde, Mars takes his time.

Contrary to beliefs that things slow down when Mars is retrograde, Mars retrograde intensifies action. Things may slow down in your life, but you will take action more forcefully than usual, and from a more authentic place.

You will embody Mars, you will act like Mars – you will be Mars. You will finally act on your true desires, and do what you wanted to do since Mars started its cycle on 26 July 2017.

When Mars is retrograde, it is always opposite the Sun. It is closest to the Earth and shines at its brightest. The Earth is basically between Mars and the Sun, becoming the mediator between the divine consciousness (the Sun) and action (Mars). Mars retrograde is manifestation in action!

Mars opposite Sun is like a Full Moon of Mars and intensifies, brings to culmination whatever Mars stands for in your natal chart.

Why Mars Retrograde Is So Important

Mercury retrograde might be more popular because it happens more frequently (Mercury goes retrograde every 3-4 months and is retrograde 20% of time), but Mars retrograde is more important, because it happens only once every 2 years. Last time Mars was retrograde was April – June 2016.

It’s the rarest of retrogrades and also the longest of all the personal planets. That’s why the most significant events in one’s life tend to happen when Mars goes retrograde.

Mars goes retrograde at 9° Aquarius, and goes direct at 28° Capricorn. This means Mars spends two months covering only 12° of the zodiac. Have a look where you have 28° Capricorn – 9° Aquarius in your chart. There is something about that part of your chart you need to understand, to revise, and ultimately take action upon.

These are the most important aspects Mars makes during the retrograde:

  • Mars goes retrograde June 26
  • Mars is conjunct the South Node on July 20
  • Mars opposes Sun on 26 July 26
  • Mars is conjunct the Total Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius on July 27
  • Mars is square Uranus on August 1
  • Mars re-enters Capricorn on August 12
  • Mars goes direct on August 27

Mars – The Hero, The Warrior

Mars is the archetype of the hero and the warrior. Whenever you are fighting for something, whenever you say ‘no’ to what goes against your will, you are embodying Mars.

Mars has free will. The only personal planet that travels across the zodiac on its own (not along with the Sun) is Mars. No other personal planet (Mercury, Venus) has really a will on its own because both Mercury and Venus never travel too far away from the Sun.

But Mars does. When you act from your Mars power, you have the ability to make it on your own, against any rules and obstacles. Mars brings transformation in your life. If Pluto, the higher octave of Mars brings long-lasting, complex transformation, Mars brings rapid transformation. Your life gets changed when Mars is strong in the sky, like it is now.

Mars goes retrograde in Aquarius and Capricorn. The signs Mars is transiting will give you deeper insights into what this transformation is about.

Aquarius is a paradoxical sign. On one hand, it’s a fixed sign, which means it’s stable and inflexible. On the other hand, Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, which is the most unpredictable planet in the sky.

Aquarians are known to be unique, special and original – like no one else. In the same time, Aquarius is all about teamwork, groups of people and working towards a greater goal, rather than an individual goal.

How can we reconcile these apparent conceptual conflicts?

Aquarius is a fixed air sign. Fixed air is not an easy concept to grasp. You can probably relate to fixed earth (Taurus) – and you can instantly picture a piece of land. You could also eventually picture fixed fire (Leo) and see the Sun, or fixed water (Scorpio) and picture some ice (BTW, did you know that Scorpio’s ruling planet, Pluto is covered in ice?). But what about fixed air? (Aquarius).

Aquarius And The Invisible Threads

A good way to think about fixed air is invisible (air) threads (fixed). Aquarius is what is stable (fixed) yet invisible (air) to the eye. Invisible ties are the unwritten rules of the society. It is what keeps people together and makes them loyal to each other. It is what makes friends stay friends even if they live in different parts of the globe.

Invisible threads

This is why Aquarius seems unpredictable…but just because you don’t see these invisible ties, it doesn’t mean they are not there.

Remeber how Uranus, the ruling planet of Aquarius has been discovered? With a telescope. Uranus was always there, but people couldn’t see it, within the technological limitations of the time. This is a good way of thinking about Aquarius.

There is another apparent conflict with Aquarius – does Aquarius make an individual unique, or a team player?

A good example for this is team sports: each player has an individual role: quarterback, center, linebacker, cornerback. But all players work towards a common goal – to win the game. Aquarius is exactly about putting the unique creative energy of each individual into use, to create something greater than the sum of its parts.

Aquarian teamwork is not the assembly line workers who may work towards the same goal, but perform the same repetitive activity. Aquarian teamwork is more like an agile scrum team, or a boardroom: each person has their unique role, yet they work towards a common goal, a goal that is beyond their personal concern.

Mars retrograde spends most of the time in Aquarius, however, it does go back into Capricorn from August 13 until August 26.

Go Back To The Drawing Board

When a retrograde planet moves back in the previous sign, is giving you a second chance. This is when things from the past come back to you so you can finally deal with them. Mars’ journey back into Capricorn is your second chance to get it right in the matters of the house where you have Capricorn.

Let’s take an example: let’s say Aquarius is your 8th house, and Capricorn your 7th house. In the first 2 months of Mars retrograde, 8th house themes will come into focus: maybe you need to get your joint finances in order, ask for a loan, or pay your taxes. You will be busy with this from 26 June (when Mars goes retrograde) until 12 August. From 13 August on, your focus will shift to the 7th house. You will have a second chance to fix some issues related – this time – to your relationships and partnerships (7th house themes) which in turn, will help you with your 8th house matters. Maybe you need to set better, fairer rules in the relationship (7th house) so you can proceed to the next level (8th house). This is how this retrograde works.

Capricorn and Aquarius have many things in common (they are both traditionally ruled by Saturn) but the fundamental distinction is that Capricorn sets the vision.

Capricorn is the Manager who sets the vision, who sets the strategy. And Aquarius is the Team who makes it happen.

Mars going retrograde from Aquarius to Capricorn means you need to go back to the drawing board and re-adjust your strategy.

If something in your life is not working (look where you have Aquarius, to get some clues about what exactly is not working), then this retrograde is your chance to make it work again.

Instead of getting stuck in doing the same thing over and over again, go back and revise your strategy. Go back to the drawing board.

Ask yourself: What battle am I fighting? What am I really trying to achieve? What is my true goal? What is my strategy?

Mars is the planet of action, drive, and decisiveness. Is about acting from your instinct. In the past, acting from your instinct usually meant acting against someone’s else instinct. It meant going to war. Things have changed, and with time we learned to work with the energy of Mars without causing too much harm to others, but ultimately Mars is about acting form your instinct, even if it goes against the whole world.

Haka – The War Dance

If we put all the symbolism together – Aquarius (teamwork), Capricorn (strategy), Mars (action) that flows from Aquarius to Capricorn, I cannot NOT think of the Haka.

Haka is a ceremonial Maori war dance that has been popularized by the New Zealand rugby team. The All Blacks (New Zealand rugby team) perform this war dance before every rugby match. Haka is a posture dance with shouted vocal chanting accompanied by hand actions, foot stamping, and facial expressions.

It is very powerful to watch and it looks like it’s working. Despite its small population, New Zealand has the most successful rugby team in the world.

Haka is a war dance, meant to warn the opponent that they are better off to stay away from trouble. Haka is an honest war dance – the team shows the opponent what they are up to, what their goal is. It’s a territory marking activity: “You can’t cross here”.

Who knows how many wars could have been avoided if the opponents had been straightforward about their intentions and about their abilities. When Mars slows down and gets closer to the Earth like now, he is very straightforward about his intentions.

Ultimately, the upcoming Mars retrograde will ask you to perform a war dance and get to the core of what you want.

Questions to reflect upon when Mars is retrograde:

  • Am I crystal clear about what I want to achieve?
  • Do I act with integrity?
  • Does my goal serve a higher purpose?
  • Is there any way I can avoid ‘bloodshed’ and still, have my objectives met?
  • Which areas of my life need honest, decisive action?

You will feel the Mars retrograde energy more strongly if you have planets or angles between 28° Capricorn – 9° Aquarius and 28° Cancer – 9° Leo.

Venus Conjunct Mars – The Cosmic Lovers Meet, A New Relationship Cycle Begins

Venus conjunct Mars – a new relationship cycle

Venus conjunct Mars in transit marks the start of a new relationship cycle.

The Venus Mars conjunction happens once every 2 years and marks a new beginning in relationships and partnerships. Like a New Moon, new planetary cycles offer a fresh beginning.

Venus Mars cycles repeat themselves every 32 years. The last Venus Mars conjunction was 32 years back, on October 5,1985. Try to remember what happened back then, as this conjunction will have a similar energy.

Venus and Mars are the cosmic lovers and in astrology they describe attraction, love and relationships. Mars rules Aries and Venus rules Libra – Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, ruling the Ascendant and the 1st house, Mars is “I”. Venus is the 7th sign of the zodiac and rules the 7th house, or the descendant, and stands for the “The Other”

Even people who are not very familiar with astrology know that Venus stands for the feminine, and Mars, for the masculine. The astrological symbols for Venus and Mars are identical to those used in biology to identify sexes.

One of the most famous books of all time is “Men are from Mars, women are from Venus”.The book shows the polarity of the two energies – Mars, the assertive, masculine energy, and Venus, the feminine, receptive energy.

Venus, Mars and attraction

If you look at the sky, it makes sense that Venus and Mars are all about relating. Venus is the next planet inward from Earth, and Mars is the next planet outward. In astrology, we take the Earth as the center, and Venus and Mars are two planets on the right and on the left.

While Mars relates to the world by taking the lead, acting, doing, Venus relates to the world by sending subtle messages and choosing what she likes, and rejecting what she doesn’t. Mars rules war, Venus rules the law of attraction.

MArs Venus

It is not that Venus does not take the lead. In fact, Venus is the one that chooses and invites Mars to get closer. In courtship, it is Venus who sends the courtship signals, makes eye contact and smiles to Mars. And only then Mars is “allowed” to approach Venus.

When Mars comes to Venus without being invited, he might get some success, but all research and studies show that this “success” is short-lived. It takes two to tango.

To have a long lasting attraction, Venus and Mars need to express their role in a natural way. Venus sends the signal, Mars approaches, Venus chooses and the courtship goes on.

The polarity of Venus and Mars

Venus and Mars are planets of polarity, irrespective of one’s gender or sexual orientation. In homosexual couples usually one of the partners takes the Venus role, and the other the Mars role.

It is so important that polarity exists in relationships, that life cannot be created without it. We won’t be here without Mars and Venus. Is it the passion between Venus and Mars, the “secret mix” between the two, that allows creation to take place.

Without a “chemical reaction” between Venus and Mars, we cannot create anything. The world around us is made out of polarities, we have yin and yang, 0 and 1, the North Pole and the South Pole.

The opposite poles of two magnets attract each other, but their similar poles repel each other. That’s why we need both Venus and Mars to create a “magnetic field”.

And as no magnet has only one pole, we both have a Venus and a Mars inside us.

Most creative people in the world tend to have Venus conjunct Mars in their natal chart.

Van Gogh, Hitler, Mahatma Gandhi, Bette Davis, Al Pacino, Amy Winehouse, Kanye West, Bruce Lee, Joaquin Phoenix, Bruno Mars – they all have the Venus conjunct Mars signature.

In Astrology, Venus conjunct Mars is a great time to start new relationships, especially when Venus and Mars rise in the morning sky.

When Venus and Mars rise before the Sun, they have not been “burned by the Sun”, they have not got into the “Ego zone” yet, and can express their qualities freely.

This does not mean evening conjunctions are not benefic, but they express different planetary qualities. For new beginnings, morning rise planets are the best.

Venus and Mars – the divine feminine and the divine masculine

Venus is the Divine Feminine and Mars is the Divine Masculine, so when these two planets meet, they express a special energy that we can all benefit from.

When we master the Divine Feminine, when we master the Divine Masculine, when we allow them to blend into one another, this is when we become “one” with the divine consciousness.

Venus conjunct Venus will ask us to balance our masculine and feminine energy.  When the masculine and the feminine energies are in balance, we experience a state of easiness, flow, and great vitality.

If you feel tired or unmotivated it could well be because there is an imbalance in the expression of the Mars energy, of the Venus energy, or both.

You can balance your Mars energy by surrounding yourself with good masculine role models, by watching hero movies or reading hero books, by asserting yourself when you are taken for granted.

You can balance your Venus energy by spending time with good Venusian role models, by discussing relationships with people you trust, by developing compassion and appreciation.

Venus and Mars in your natal chart

Look at where Venus and Mars are in your chart. Is Venus in a feminine sign or in a masculine sign? What about Mars?

Venus and Mars are also crucial in synastry when you want to assess the potential of a romantic relationship.

There are many indicators which describe compatibility, such as Sun and Moon. But if you want to understand the potential for intimacy, passion and sexual chemistry in a relationship, look at your Mars and Venus placement and at your partner’s Mars and Venus placements.

If you are a woman or take the feminine role in a relationship, and your Venus or your Mars are in feminine signs (Yin), a good match for you is a partner who has Venus and Mars in masculine signs (Yang).

If your Venus and Mars are in masculine signs (Yang), again, you are still better off with a partner who also has Venus and Mars in masculine signs, especially Mars.

When a woman is Yin, she needs a stronger man, with more masculine energy. When a woman is Yang, she needs an even stronger man.

If you are a man or take the masculine role in a relationship, and your Venus or your Mars are in feminine signs (Yin), look for a partner who has their Venus and Mars in feminine signs (Yin). If your Venus or Mars are in masculine signs (Yang), both partners with feminine or masculine Venus and Mars are a good match.

When a man is Yang, he needs a softer partner, with more feminine energy. When a man is Yin, he needs an even softer partner.

A Yang Woman with a Yin man is the most difficult combination, but it can be overcome with awareness and acceptance. Physical chemistry is not a “make or break” element anymore in an enlightened, mature relationship.

You will feel the energy of the Venus conjunct Mars stronger if you have Aries, Taurus, Libra, Scorpio ascendant.

Mars Conjunct Chiron – Bring Your Gifts To The World

Mars is conjunct Chiron, giving us a full “taste” of the Chiron medicine.

We cannot understand Chiron without Saturn. Saturn represents the teacher that looks after us and keep us from harm, making sure we are going to survive in a harsh world. But Saturn also represents our boundaries, our “material”, human limitations.

Saturn is the last planet visible with the naked eye – everything beyond him is “invisible”. Starting with Uranus, we enter a less tangible and more abstract zone, that affects less the individual, and more generations of individuals.

And here it comes Chiron. What makes Chiron so special (Chiron symbol is the “Key” for a reason) is that he is in orbit between Saturn and Uranus, between “what is to be seen” and “what is not to be seen”.

mars-conjunct-chiron

In this way Chiron is the connecting link between the conscious archetypes of all the planets known from the ancient times, and the subconscious aspects represented by Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.

Chiron represents the instinct of the human spirit seeking to manifest itself and leave something immaterial behind. Our spirit seeking manifestations represents our “gifts”. Chiron is also a symbol of the wounded healer, and his role is to prepare us for the journey to the unknown. Chiron brings pain because we need pain to experience the higher vibration of consciousness.

The square series of Chiron and Saturn will prepare us to undertake the initiatic journey of the Soul.

The way Mars will bring to the surface Chironic themes is by brutally exposing our pain. Mars with Chiron are associated with shame, because Chiron exposes our very first pain, the pain of our existence. Mars stands for assertivity, for our desire to put ourselves “out there”.

With Chiron, we will find that our ability to assert ourselves, to BE ourselves is obstructed. We are ashamed of who we are, we are ashamed to act and “get out there”. And we feel unable to defend ourselves.

The deeper significance of this dynamic is the difficulty to separate ourselves from “the outside world” – and when we don’t know where the limit sits, the outcome is either a drive to set these necessarily boundaries by “being aggressive” or a tendency to see “the other” as the enemy, the intruder, the “boundary setter”.

How can we know what is our place in this world when we don’t know where we stand? We ultimate fear of Mars conjunct Chiron is that by only being ourselves, we will hurt others.

It does not help that in Pisces, Mars become even less assertive – and in his lower manifestations he can become ambivalent and passive aggressive. But Pisces is also the sign of Compassion –  and the transit of Mars and Chiron in Pisces is a GIFT, an opportunity to exercise and release that inner aggression we all have.

The key to healing is learning to turn the anger, the shame and the pain of being a mortal human into strength and compassion. The message is understanding that there is nothing to be ashamed of.

The theme of assertion becomes even more apparent if we think Chiron is also known as the “Maverick”. Chiron travels between Saturn (authority, rules), and Uranus (the rebel, the revolutionary) – and just like the maverick, Chiron follows HIS OWN course.

And now we come closer to a deeper truth. In his higher manifestation, Chiron does not stand for hurt, bully and shame.  Chiron is a half horse, half human, force of nature that has transcended his human limitations and has brought the gifts of the nature to the Gods. Chiron is the sacred warrior.

But to reach these higher realms of Chiron, Mars conjunct Chiron will challenge us to heal the aggressive side of our nature. We need to learn now how to assert ourselves in a healthy way and stand our ground.

By expressing our inner aggression effectively and being firm but gracious, we can become teachers and mentor for other people dealing with the same issues.

Healing our aggression comes hand in hand with learning how to cultivate bravery. Because Chiron exposes Mars’ vulnerability, the tendency to cowardice, to punish ourselves for not trying harder, is very strong now.

Although painful, these difficulties can make our patterns of behavior more conscious and will ultimately lead to acceptance and healing.

In its highest expression, Mars – Chiron stands for energy and spirit coming together with a strong drive to take action, and leave something behind for those who will follow.

Mars in Pisces – The Spiritual Warrior

Mars enters Pisces, inviting us to let the guard down and trust that the Universe is constantly working on our behalf to give us what our soul needs.

Mars is traditionally the God of War, but in dream-like Pisces, Mars cares less about getting his way, about rewards and recognition. This is because Mars can see that life is so much more that a single, clear-cut direction.

In Pisces, Mars is the alchemist that understands the interconnectedness of all that is, and has the power to transform base metals into gold, something common into something special, struggle and emotions that do not serve us, into the beauty and grace.

Mars in Pisces
Picture 132

In the following weeks, we will be less interested in worldly affairs, distractions, and more dream-like and tuned in with what is not to be seen. The Mars in Pisces energy will allow us to give up the pressure of being in charge and embrace the comfort of trust and in this way, stay open to the miraculous, serendipitous, unexpected turns of life.

Does that mean that Mars in Pisces in passive? Not at all. Although he is not the “in your face” type of warrior (like Mars in Aries for example), it does not mean he is not an warrior.

In Pisces, Mars is the archetype of the spiritual warrior.

Spirituality and war are two words that are often in conflict –  but is there really a contradiction between the two?

In Pisces, Mars explores the crossings of spirituality and war.

Most prophets of our times were spiritual warriors – as they fought for love. They had the courage, discipline, and openness to love unconditionally even they were rejected and persecuted – and this is because they stood for something larger than themselves.

The first and most vital tool of the spiritual warrior is awareness. And this is what Neptune, Pisces’s ruler does so well. Neptune has the ability to understand the big picture, and accept that we are all part of it, and in the same time we all co-create the Divine Plan in every moment of our existence.

Awareness is about perceiving with clarity the truth of what is happening without interpretation or opinion. We are “seeing” from a point or view separate from the reasoning part of our brain. Conscious awareness allows us to see clearly instead of be blinded by false belief paradigms.

Mars is Pisces is not delusional – he clearly sees the truth of our existence, even when the others call him a fool or a conspiracy theorist.

The way to deal with Mars in Pisces transit is by getting in touch with the spiritual warrior inside us, and by finding different creative outlets to express ourselves.

Mars In Aquarius – It’s Time For A Revolution

Mars entered Aquarius on the 8th of November and it will stay here until 19th of December.

This is a very important transit, because Mars is in mutual reception with Uranus in Aries. Being in mutual reception, Mars and Uranus will strengthen each other and take on each other’s attributes.

So Mars will become ‘Uranus in Aries’-like, revolutionary, rebellious and much more action-oriented the fixed Aquarius Mars usually is. This time, Mars will take a serious stand against the status quo.

mars-in-aquarius

Change must happen if we want to be free and live in the Truth, and Mars in Aquarius is willing to take the actions to make all the necessary changes happen.

Those of you with a natal Mars in Aquarius will experience a “Mars return”.

Mars return happens when the transit Mars reaches the same degree as its natal position. Planetary returns mark the beginning of another cycle of a particular planet’s continued development in our psyche – in the case of Mars –  our assertion, will, what motivates and energizes us, our borders with the outside world.

And for the people with Sun in Aquarius – the Aquarians – , the Mars transit over your Sun can activate a project you started at the time you had the Mars return.

Let’s take an example: if you are born on the 22nd January 1980, on the 10th of November 2016 Mars will transit your natal Sun (at 2° in Aquarius). If you look at your natal chart you will notice you have Mars at 15° in Virgo. The next step is to check when you had the last Mars return. If you look at the ephemeris, last time we had Mars transiting Virgo at 15° was around 20 October 2015. Think about what you have been doing back then – that project can finally move forward now.

For all of us, irrespective of our Mars or Sun placements, the transit of Mars in Aquarius can manifest in two main ways:

  • If you feel stuck, unappreciated or simply bored in one or more areas of your life, this transit will give you that push to break free from the chains of the society and express your uniqueness. During the next 1 month and a half you will want to do something different, and distinguish yourself from your group – school, workplace or any type of community. Now is the time to challenge group thinking and stand out for YOUR truth. If you no longer connect yourself with the direction of the group you are part of, you have the celestial green light  to do something about it.
  • On a contrary, if you’ve been too much “me” focused in the last 2 years, the transit will remind you about the power of collective wisdom. Being part of something greater than yourself, belonging to like-minded groups and communities, can your individual potential leverage to a greater extent. That group, that community, this world needs you and would not be the same without you.

Mars in Aquarius transit key words: collective consciousness, putting hopes and ideals into action, adrenaline, intra and inter group collaboration, technology breakthroughs, bringing innovation  to market, free thinking and unique expression, mass communication, revolution.

Mars In Capricorn

Mars is now in Capricorn. This is one of the top 3 placements for Mars, which in exalted in Capricorn.

During this transit we will just get better at achieving our goals. Our focus will become excellent as we will get in tune with that place of quiet confidence within.

mars-in-capricorn

We will get a better sense of perspective, by setting clear goals, based on our values, knowing WHY we do what we do. Mars entered Capricorn just after Pluto turned direct (Pluto is also in Capricorn!) which will make this transit even more potent and transformative. Just like the mountain goat, the symbol of Capricorn, we will keep pushing one foot after another until we reach the top.

Those of you with natal Mars in Capricorn will experience the Mars return, which means a new chapter of your life is about to start. This is an excellent time to plan your future activities. The House Position of Mars in the Mars return chart, calculated for the time when Mars returns to its natal position, will indicate what area of your life will be highlighted in the next 2 years.

For all of us, Mars will bring a boost of energy in the House transited by Mars.

Grand Water Trine

We have a Grand Water trine with Mercury in Cancer, Mars in Scorpio and Chiron in Pisces.

During this transit we feel more at ease to express our emotions, even those we kept buried inside for years and years. The energy is very healing and flows – literally – like water.

To get the best of this transit, tune into the healing powers of water. Go by the water if you have the possibility, and if not, try a meditation that is centered on water, or simply listen to the sound of a river steam of to the sound of the waves.

A meditation you can use to tune in:

Find a quiet space inside your home or outside in nature. Start by breathing deeply to calm down your mind. Then imagine you are next to a stream, or by the sea. Listen to the sound of the water, and let it fill the space in the head until there is nothing but that sound. And then, as you go into the water, feel it against your skin. How does it feel? Then picture yourself as water. This could be a drop of rain, an ocean, a river, a waterfall, even a teardrop. Imagine yourself merging with the water, and let it guide you. Reflect on the feeling of being one with the water until you feel relaxed and at peace.

Intimacy

Intimacy is the bond that grows when we learn to express our own thoughts and feelings, and in the same time carefully listen to the other.

The following days are some of the most intimate days of the year:

  • Sun is conjunct Mercury in Cancer
  • Venus in Cancer is trine Mars in Scorpio
  • Slowly Venus and Mars will approach Chiron to form a beautiful, intimate and healing
  • Water Grand Trine

Intimate AstrologySun is our identity, and Mercury, Venus and Mars are personal planets. We don’t have very often all these bodies in sync in the same time, AND in water signs. The energy is very caring and intimate. We crave deep emotional connections with others, and because Mercury is in cazimi with the Sun, and Mars just turned direct and is more powerful than ever, we also dare to express our needs and desires.

In a relationship or single, these days make sure you have contact with other people, even at a platonic level, even only for handshake, because you need this human contact, and you are likely to benefit a lot from it. Being intimate can trigger feelings of vulnerability, but that’s ok. Stay with them and let your heart break open. Some hurtful things have to be let go so all that is left is pure love.

Sun Opposition Mars

If you felt frustrated and annoyed in the last couple of days – an astral explanation for this is the recent Sun-Mars opposition.

Sun-Opposite-Mars

We can only have an opposition between Mars and Sun when Mars is retrograde.

This also means that Mars is at his closest distance from the Earth. If you look for him in the night sky, Mars is full of light now, like a knight in shining armor, brighter than ever!

So we have the hero – a knight called Mars, in an epic battle with his father, the Sun. The problem is Mars and Sun are at the greatest distance from each other. A physical confrontation is not possible. Still, the opposition to the Sun puts Mars to a test of strength. But what is Mars really fighting? Again remember Mars is close to the Earth, so all that he can really do is deal with “earthy” matters.

The magic of understanding the Mars-Sun opposition is realizing the hero’s (Mars) greatest opponent is his own shadow. His real battle is with the forces of his unconscious.

The role of the Mars-Sun opposition is to facilitate greater awareness of oneself and others, by challenging our “earthy” limitations. What is behind the anger? What are the material things that block you from having more initiative, from reaching your goals?
