March is one of the big months of the year. Saturn enters Aquarius, and we have a 6 (!) planet stellium in Capricorn.
Mars marches through Capricorn, stirring the outer planets that were getting a bit too comfortable there.
And Mercury finally goes direct!
Even if we are in the middle of the Pisces season, March is as Capricorn as you can get. March 2020 is the culmination of the Capricorn outer planet stellium which started to form in 2019.
At the end of the month, Saturn and Mars leave Capricorn, so we will finally get some relief in the area of our life ruled by Capricorn.
What I like about March is that we don’t have any particular tense aspect. Yes, we have lots of intense aspects, such as Mars conjunct Jupiter and Pluto, but very few squares and oppositions.
If you have big plans in March, this is a great time to make them happen, because you will not have much opposition.
Let’s have a look at the most important transits of the month:
March 5th, 2020 – Venus Enters Taurus
On March 4th, 2020 Venus enters Taurus. Venus is in her domicile in Taurus which means it feels ‘at home’ here – she is natural, sensual and unaffected.
You will find it easier to understand and make sense of your feelings – without guilt, self-doubt or the Imposter Syndrome.
Venus in Taurus is here to tell you that it’s ok to be you – and in the era of Instagram and photo filters, this message is more relevant than ever.
March 8th, 2020 – Sun Conjunct Neptune
On March 7th, 2020, Sun is conjunct Neptune at 18° Pisces. Neptune transits can feel either very very confusing, or very very inspiring.
Sun represents our identity. Neptune dissolves any planet it touches, Sun conjunct Neptune is an opportunity to leave behind the old definition of who you are and meet the timeless, infinite Self that you really are.
“Just go with the flow” … you’ve probably heard this advice hundreds of times. But how many of us can really surrender and let go?
When Sun is conjunct Neptune the best advice is to let chaos to its work. It’s in the chaos – in this creative space of infinite possibilities – that eventually a new order will emerge.
March 8th, 2020 – Venus Conjunct Uranus
On March 8th, 2020 Venus is conjunct Uranus at 4° Taurus.
A good metaphor for Venus conjunct Uranus is a beautiful bird that finally finds a way out of the cage. Venus is what we love, what we really want. Uranus is the planet of freedom and liberation.
Venus conjunct Uranus is about being true to one’s heart. About being unapologetically yourself. About loving freely and unconditionally.
March 9th, 2020 – Full Moon In Virgo
On March 9th, 2020 we have a Full Moon at 19° Virgo. The Full Moon in Virgo is opposite Neptune and trine Jupiter and is undoubtedly one of the best Full Moons of the year.
What’s also interesting is that the Full Moon in Virgo is naturally ruled by Mercury – and Mercury goes direct exactly at the time of the Full Moon. That’s another reason to celebrate!
There is a sense of optimism and moving forward. You can witness some unexpected turns of events – and since the Moon is so nicely aspected – these turns of events are most likely for the better.
March 13th, 2020 – Chiron Squares The Nodes Of The Moon
On March 13th, 2020 Chiron (at 4° Aries) is square the North Node (at 4° Cancer) and the South Node (at 4° Capricorn). Both Chiron and the Nodes are connected to our vocation and sense of purpose.
There is an underlying feeling of imminence, of meeting one’s destiny and true vocation. You are at crossroads.
There is a part of you that wants to keep walking the walked path – because it’s safe, and because it will always be there. But there is another part of you, that is ready to confront the Truth, however inconvenient and painful it may be.
We can only find our true vocation if we embrace all the broken parts of the Self. Our purpose can only emerge from this place of wholeness.
March 18th, 2020 – 6 Planet Stellium In Capricorn
On March 18th, we have a record of 6 planets in Capricorn, 5 of which are engaged in a very tight conjunction.
This is not ‘just’ a stellium – we have 5 planets all cramped within 8° of the zodiac. The Moon and Mars are at 21° Capricorn, Jupiter is at 22° Capricorn, Pluto at 24° Capricorn and Saturn at 29° Capricorn.
This is very very relevant, especially so if you have planets or angles from 21° to 29° in cardinal signs (Capricorn, Aries, Cancer, Libra). March 18th, 2020 is the energy peak of the Capricorn stellium.
March 20th, 2020 – Sun Enters Aries
Happy birthday to all Aries out there… and Happy New Year to everyone! On March 20th, 2020 Sun enters Aries which means that we have the official start of a new astrological year.
No matter where you live on Earth, on March 20, the Sun starts its ascension, rising North of the equator. Just as the Sun starts its upward climb, you can too ‘ascend’ again and start on new projects.
March 20th, 2020 – Mars Conjunct Jupiter
On March 20th, 2020 Mars is conjunct Jupiter at 22° Capricorn.
This is a high-energy transit that combines Mars’ strength and focus with Jupiter’s confidence and sense of coherence.
Right now, there is nothing you cannot achieve – this is your chance to make a difference and create something truly meaningful.
March 21st, 2020 – Saturn Enters Aquarius
On March 21st, 2020 Saturn enters Aquarius. Saturn changes signs only once every 2 and a half years, so this is a biggie.
Saturn is in domicile in Aquarius (Saturn rules both Capricorn and Aquarius), and this means that Saturn in Aquarius is another transit to look forward to.
Saturn will initially spend 3 months in Aquarius – to give us a ‘taste’ of this transit -, it will retrograde back into Capricorn, and then move into Aquarius for good in December 2020.
Saturn in Aquarius deserves a special report, and I will write more about this important transit in the coming days.
March 23rd, 2020 – Mars Conjunct Pluto
On March 23rd, Mars conjunct Pluto at 24° Capricorn. This transit is pure adrenaline – but it is also backed by endurance, strength and determination.
Imagine a marathon combined with climbing. You run and climb a mountain for hours on end. That’s Mars conjunct Pluto in Capricorn (Jupiter is also closely conjunct Mars and Pluto).
During this transit, you can access a tremendous amount of energy you didn’t know you have. Make sure you use it for good – for example, to tackle a difficult project, or if you have nothing planned, at least engage in physical exercise.
March 24rd, 2020 – New Moon In Aries
On March 23rd, 2020 we have a New Moon at 4° Aries. This New Moon is tightly conjunct Chiron (at 5° Aries) and square the Nodes of the Moon.
A new beginning can only unfold when we make peace with the past. The New Moon is in Aries, the sign of identity.
To grow, evolve and become the best version of yourself, you need to embrace all your flaws and life choices.
Of course, embracing our flaws is not easy. We are wired to avoid negative emotions, so we’d rather go on with our life half-aware, making assumptions that may or may not be true.
But ultimately we need to make peace with our past, with that part of us that makes us feel so uncomfortable. People who don’t learn the past are doomed to repeat it. People who learn from the past create a better future for themselves and the next generations.
March 25th, 2020 – Sun Conjunct Chiron
On March 25th, 2020, Sun is conjunct Chiron at 5° Aries, marking the beginning of a new Chiron cycle.
Chiron and the Sun have a very special relationship. Chiron is classified as both a minor planet and a comet.
When a comet gets closer to the Sun, it heats up and spews dust and gases into a giant glowing head larger than most planets.
The comet is transformed by the encounter. Similarly, when we have a Sun-Chiron transit, we too have the opportunity to transform at a deep level.
The Sun-Chiron transit is similar to a healing crisis. A healing crisis is characterized by a temporary increase in discomfort, when internal toxins and wastes are being released faster than the body can eliminate them.
However, this initial discomfort is a sign that healing is taking place. In the same way, to release the old wounds and traumas, we first have to acknowledge and accept them.
March 31st, 2020 – Mars Enters Aquarius
On March 31st, 2020 Mars enters Aquarius, and one day later will conjoin Saturn.
This is a very important aspect not only because this is Mars conjunct Saturn, but also because it occurs at 0° Aquarius, the degree of the much anticipated Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in December 2020.
But more about the Mars-Saturn conjunction, in the next month’s forecast.

Great post ! i like having the month laid out like this. Thank-you ! Tom
Wisdom is looking good in March as is growth and healing.
Thank you for sharing your talent. How you explain the essence of a planet or comet into the transit that takes place. All in a very clear and healing language.
Thank you Butterfly, My Solar Return is on the 18th (as Olga Rostropovitch’s)! I am in awe also thanks to March 1st when I’ve listened to an exceptional violonist in a small concert hall, the young Lady is a genius and much more (yes it is possible!), Lord Menuhin knew that straight away and she is a brilliant peacemaker! She confirms one’s vocation on Earth as Peacemaker/Peacewalker too!
A really good over all breakdown of the energies involved for this month. I look forward to the updates on the other aspects for this month
Just a few thoughts. Sun Conjunct Neptune. Because the Sun is influencing Neptune there could be a spotlight or focus on Creativity. Also inspiration is highlighted in which ever area of the chart it occurs. Venus conjunct Uranus a desire to break free or be different in some way again in which ever part of your chart this conjunction occurs.Only a few Idea of Mine. Many thanks to Astro Butterfly for your inspiration.
What is the 6th planet in Capricorn on the 18th March? Wonderfully laid out information. Thank you
You’re welcome, the 6th planet is the South Node
Thank you for your contribution to understanding astrology. Regarding the transit of Saturn in Aquarius, however, it is fundamental to study the chart of its ingress into the sign, 22nd March h 3h58′ UT. If you calculate this chart for Rome (Italy), you will be able to see how difficult and critical it is. Best regards!
