On July 28th, 2022 we have a New Moon at 5° Leo. The New Moon in Leo is our yearly opportunity to connect with your heart.
Leo rules all the good things in astrology: love, warmth, joy, generosity, courage – but also ego, pride and arrogance.
What makes some Leos “Bravehearts” and others “Cowardly Lions”?
There are of course many explanations – ranging from “any sign has positive and negative qualities”, to “one’s level of emotional maturity” and so on.
The way I make sense of it astrologically, is that signs that share the same modality build on each other’s qualities.
Leo is a fixed sign; the previous fixed sign is Taurus.
Taurus is where we learn to love ourselves. Taurus’ key words like “senses”, “good food”, “massages”, “laziness”, are all rooted in self-love, in our capacity to love ourselves, and do those things that are good for us.
If this goes well, then in the next fixed sign, Leo, we express this new found love into our environment. Just like the Sun gives light and warmth, a Leo that loves themselves, is radiant, loving and generous.
Again, if this process goes well, then in the next fixed sign, Scorpio, we learn how to share love with another, finding true intimacy.
And if the Scorpio story goes well too, then in Aquarius, we share our love with humanity at large.
Leo – Love Yourself First
But what happens if we don’t learn to love ourselves in Taurus? What happens if we don’t feel worthy of indulging in our morning coffee, or taking time off when we’re tired?
We will then try to find this self-worth in the next fixed sign, in Leo.
If Aries, Taurus, Gemini – or the 1st quadrant of the zodiac are the “Self”, Cancer, Leo and Virgo – the 2nd quadrant – are our environment. So if we don’t find love inside ourselves, we look for it in our environment.
That’s why Leo needs feedback, needs acknowledgement. How others react to whatever Leo says or does becomes THE validation they seek: if the feedback is positive, it means they are worthy; if it’s not, it means they are unworthy.
And who wants to feel unworthy? Nobody, and especially not a Leo.
So Leo will then start to alter their natural behavior, behaving in ways they believe will bring the validation they consciously or unconsciously seek.
But no external validation will fill the void that needs to be filled in Taurus.
No one else will show us love unless we love ourselves first.
Once this self-love dynamic is understood and integrated, then Leos get to do what they do best: shine, create, spread love and joy, be brave and generous.
Leo is ruled by the Sun, the heart of our solar system. In human physiology, Leo rules the actual heart. The heart pumps life into our body and keeps us alive.
Similarly, when we connect with/to our Leo energy, we feel alive and aligned with our purpose. We are not afraid to express our true selves – in fact, we understand that that’s the only possible way to conduct ourselves. We are who we are, and nothing else is real.
New Moon In Leo – Straight From The Heart
The New Moon in Leo is your opportunity to connect with your heart, to connect with this powerful force of truth inside each one of us.
The stakes are high – we can attempt to use this force to fill up our self-love void, invalidating our true nature, OR we can simply be ourselves and live straight from the heart.
The good news is that the New Moon in Leo is trine Jupiter, bringing optimism and clarity. This is a beautifully aspected New Moon – a true chance to connect with our heart and with our purpose.
New Moons are golden opportunities to start afresh. If you haven’t lived purposefully until now, this can change. You don’t have to continue on the same old path. You CAN press the reset button and start living from your heart.
The New Moon trine Jupiter will infuse you with hope and optimism that it is possible to live a life of purpose.
Of course, it’s not all smooth sailing.
We have a fixed T-square with Mercury in Leo, Saturn in Aquarius, and Mars, North Node, and Uranus in Taurus. There is an enormous push for change – but there is also an enormous resistance to change.
Acknowledge the tension. This is not an invitation to take on battles you cannot win – simply notice the different parts of yourself that may be at war with each other.
Acknowledge the way the world is pushing your buttons, asking you to conform (Saturn in Aquarius). Acknowledge your reaction to fight back and let them know what you think (Mercury in Leo).
Acknowledge the North Node/Uranus invitation to step into the unknown.
And remember that there is a place where you can make sense of it all, a place that ALWAYS knows what’s best for you: your heart.

Great message. Helpful + hopeful.
This was incredibly powerful – thank you so much for the gift in your message and writing.
I appreciate you for laying this out so sweetly. I am a Leo Sun and rising, and my South Node is in Taurus. (still learning the houses). What you share here makes so much sense to me and my life journey. I can relate to all of it. I can see how the last 20 years or so were important for my life trajectory. I learned to love myself, to stand alone (or by my truth) and how I show up publicly is sooo much different today than it was even 5 years ago. Thank you again!
