Full Moon In Sagittarius – Fata Morgana

“Saturn is the illusion that there is a reality, and Neptune is the reality that there is none” – Unknown

The Full Moon in Sagittarius on June 14th, 2022 is square Neptune and sextile Saturn, raising important questions about what’s real and what’s not.

Fata Morgana is a mirage right above the horizon, seen at sea, in polar regions or in deserts. The mirage may involve any distant object, including boats, islands, and the coastline.

The optical phenomenon occurs because the rays of light bend when they pass through air layers of different temperatures that are inverted from their normal layering.

Normally, air is warmer closer to the surface, and cooler higher up – however, in exceptional conditions, the layer of warm air is above the layer of cool air – and this is when a Fata Morgana occurs.

Fata Morgana and other optical illusions really make us question the notion of reality.

The world as we see it through our senses is just a reflection of the specific physics of our environment. If for whatever reason we would have cool air above the surface, and a layer of warmer air on top, then there will be mirages everywhere. We would all think we’ve gone mad or that the aliens have come.

It is not that the mirage is not real.

The reflection of an upside-down boat or coastline is based on sensory information that is 100% real – it’s just that it appears in a place where it shouldn’t.

It’s interesting that many landmases or islands have been discovered ‘thanks’ to mirages. Sailors would ‘see’ a coastline for example, they would sail in a direction where they wouldn’t otherwise, only to eventually discover something completely new.

Full Moon In Sagittarius And Neptune

That’s how Neptune works too.

Neptune twists ‘reality’ and this twisting helps us ‘see’ things from a different perspective. At first, it may appear that Neptune’s reality twists are totally random.

Neptune is anything but random. The universe has a geometry and interconnectedness that is so complex, that it’s difficult to make sense of with our Mercury mind.

Our Mercury mind is designed according to Earth’s physics, and can only decode information that is a direct reflection of Earth’s physics. That’s why we don’t see mirages when we have cool air on top of warm air, because that’s our everyday reality.

Neptune ‘strikes’ when we can no longer find answers using ‘logic’ aka our Mercury.  When things no longer make sense, when we’re stuck, that’s when we need a Neptune intervention.

Neptune works primarily through dreams and intuition.

When we dream, seemingly unrelated information, mental or emotional imprints from our past are rearranged much like in a Fata Morgana, showing us subtle connections that in turn help us process the information and find solutions we couldn’t have found in a wake state.

Full Moon In Sagittarius – The Aspects

The Full Moon in Sagittarius on June 14th, 2022 is square Neptune, inviting us to pay attention to the Fata Morganas out there.

To make things even ‘easier’ for us, the ruler of the Full Moon, Jupiter is unaspected.

Jupiter is our reference model, what we believe to be true – because it has been tried and tested. If we’re on the highway, we don’t question the traffic signs – we know someone has done the work so that we can follow a trusted path.

One of the reasons why Jupiter is the great benefic in astrology is that life is easy when we know there are things we can rely on, when we know we don’t have to worry that we’ll drive into a pit.

So what happens when Jupiter is unaspected?

When Jupiter, our reference model is unaspected, we feel like we’ve lost our compass. We’re no longer on the highway – we’re at sea or in the desert, without a map. We don’t know if we should turn right or left.

But that’s exactly the magic moment when a Neptunian Fata Morgana occurs. Neptune only shows us those signs that we need to follow for the sake of our growth and evolution. Neptune only shows us signs we are ready to see – when we’re not distracted by Jupiterian ‘realities’.

Of course, the process can feel extremely confusing.

Everything we knew to be true doesn’t seem to make sense any more. We may feel lost and stranded. But that’s because our old mental models, our old beliefs no longer serve us.

A new approach is needed.

The Full Moon square Neptune will show us that there is a way – a different way – to move forward in our lives. At the Full Moon, allow the inquisitive spirit of Sagittarius to guide you in finding different answers in unusual places.

Venus conjunct Uranus and the North Node in Taurus reminds us that when we honor our heart, the whole universe conspires to make it happen. Just like in Paolo Cohelo’s Alchemist, our heart is our only true compass – and it will guide us in the barren deserts and stormy seas to find our greatest treasure.

Feelings of self-doubt may arise, since Mars is conjunct Chiron in Aries. You may ask yourself “Who am I to deserve this?”.

This is a very important question.

But instead of focusing on “(…) to deserve this”, what if we’d focus on “Who am I”, or even better, on “I am”?

If there’s something that is undeniable, even by Neptune standards, is that “you are”.  You are here – and you are here for a reason.

Take these uncomfortable feelings of inadequacy as an opportunity to understand yourself at a deeper level.  There’s nothing wrong with you – nor with your wants, needs and desires. The only reason you haven’t achieved them – yet – is a lack of self-knowledge.

The Sabian symbol of the Full Moon in Sagittarius  is “A bluebird perched on the gate of a cottage”. As James Burgess suggests:

“We get whatever we merit. Our worthiness is always rewarded – and the rewards are always apt and fair. If we have the good fortune to see a bluebird at the threshold of our place of dwelling, it is because we deserve it. This wisdom is the foundation of all wisdom – we get what we deserve.”

  1. I’d prefer to steer clear of Neptune’s cold and, ungrounded embrace. I’m on earth and if something is upside down, I’m going to consciously put a spoke in the wheel to bring things down to earth, where we all have to live, regardless of neptunian illusion, and even Jovial promises of candy.
