Are you ready? September 2020 looks pretty much like March 2020. March 2020 is when the world turned upside down and the Coronavirus crisis escalated.
This month’s transits strangely mirror what was going on back in March.
Back then, Mars joined the Capricorn stellium, angering Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto.
Now in September, Mars squares the exact same planets – Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto.
Here we go again!
While September may feel like “deja vu”, September is not quite like March.
If back in March, Mars was CONJUNCT all those Capricorn outer planets, now Mars is SQUARING them. In March, Mars was “part of the problem”. Now Mars wants to find solutions.
If back in March, Mars played the Capricorn agenda, Mars now plays its own agenda. Because yes, Mars is in domicile in Aries. His house, his rules.
And there’s one more thing. Mars goes retrograde in September and will spend a record of 6 months there.
Normally, when squaring a planet, Mars triggers some things here and there, makes some quick changes, then hits the road in search of new conquests.
But this time Mars is here to stay. Your regular Mars-Jupiter, Mars-Pluto, and Mars-Saturn square will not last 3 days… but 6 months each. That’s a LOT of time to make Mars type of adjustments.
September and October will be even more intense than March because of Mars retrograde and the cardinal T-square with the planets in Libra and Capricorn. The release point (apex) of this tense energy is in Capricorn, which will be the “punch bag” of this cardinal T-square.
We have 3 cardinal energies here: Aries, Libra, and Capricorn.
Aries is the individual.
Libra is the partner, the “open” enemy – and also a symbol for justice and political correctness.
And Capricorn is the establishment.
People will fight (Aries-Libra opposition) but ultimately the scapegoat (the irony) will be Capricorn, or the “Establishment”. The establishment will likely be taken by surprise, underestimating the anger (Mars retrograde) of the individual (Aries).
I’m not going to sugarcoat this. September will be a tough month.
And while we cannot just turn our inner Mars off, and be all love and light right now, what we CAN do is try to embrace Mars’ healthy expression (self-assertion for the sake of finding a better solution, without hurting others), rather than Mars’ unhealthy expression (rage and destruction).
Are you a Capricorn or have planets in Capricorn? You must already know by now that 2020 is not your year, but I can promise that all these changes will eventually lead to something good… just be patient.
Let’s have a look at the most important transits of the month:
September 2nd, 2020 – Full Moon In Pisces
On September 2nd, 2020 we have a Full Moon in Pisces. This is one of the positive Full Moons of the year because it is sextile Uranus in Taurus.
This is a highly feminine, receptive, and manifesting Full Moon – an opportunity to turn your brilliance into something real that can benefit the world in a tangible way.
You will be especially influenced by this Full Moon if you have planets or angles around 10° in Pisces, Virgo or Taurus.
September 5th, 2020 – Mercury Enters Libra
On September 5th, 2020 Mercury enters Libra, one of its favorite signs. Mercury loves Libra’s intellectual and social qualities.
This is a great transit for communication of any kind – Mercury in Libra makes you more friendly and social than usual.
But that’s true for the first 2 weeks of the transit only. Later this month, Mercury opposes Mars and squares Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn. And that’s not going to be that Mercury in Libra who wants peace and compromise. It’s going to be that Mercury in Libra who wants to fight and argue.
You have been warned.
September 6th, 2020 – Venus Enters Leo
On September 6th, 2020 Venus leaves Cancer and enters Leo. If Venus in Cancer is “home, sweet home”, Venus in Leo is “stage, sweet stage”.
Venus in Leo is beautiful, generous, and sparkling – why should she hide?
The following weeks are your opportunity to put your values and emotions on display – so that everyone can see who you really are and what you’re capable of.
September 9th, 2020 – Mars Goes Retrograde
On September 9th, 2020 Mars goes retrograde at 28° Aries.
Mars retrograde is not a usual retrograde. Unlike Mercury or Venus retrograde, which always conjunct the Sun in the middle of the retrograde cycle, Mars retrograde is OPPOSITE the Sun. So Mars retrograde is not a “New Moon” Mars, but a “Full Moon” Mars – a time for manifestation.
Unlike Mercury and Venus retrograde, Mars doesn’t disappear under the glare of the Sun, but instead, is at its brightest.
Mars retrograde is Mars on steroids – and will amplify and bring to culmination whatever Mars stands for.
Many people believe Mars retrograde slows us down, but the opposite is true. Mars retrograde is focused, determined, and ready to take action. Especially so when it is in its home sign, in Aries.
This is going to be an epic Mars retrograde – brace yourself.
September 12th, 2020 – Jupiter Goes Direct
On September 12th, 2020 Jupiter goes direct at 17° Capricorn.
I don’t know how I feel about Jupiter direct. Normally, this should be a time for celebration.
But this time, Jupiter direct means that Jupiter is getting closer – again – to Pluto. The 3rd Jupiter-Pluto conjunction (the final BANG) is coming soon. Here we go again. Are you ready?
September 17th, 2020 – New Moon In Virgo
On September 17th, 2020 we have a New Moon at 25° Virgo.
Some good news. The New Moon in Virgo is one of the best New Moons of the year because it trines Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn.
Time to look for new ways of doing things – constructive new ways of doing things.
Right now, we need Virgo’s common sense more than ever.
September 22nd – Sun Enters Libra
On September 22nd, the Sun enters Libra, and we have the Southern Equinox when the day is equal to the night everywhere on Earth.
No wonder Libra is the sign of balance, justice and objectivity. Your opinion matters just as much as mine. And my opinion just as much as yours.
Libra is opposite Aries (the sign of Self). At Libra, the Ego takes a back seat, as we learn to accept other people’s points of view.
This is an important lesson to learn, especially now when Mars is squaring all those planets in Capricorn.
September 23rd-24th, 2020 – Mercury Square Saturn, Mercury Opposite Mars
On September 23rd, Mercury in Libra squares stationing Saturn and then the next day, it opposes Mars.
Frustration escalates. Arguments seem inevitable.
You don’t want to be told what to say and what to do.
However, if you break through the frustration – which is the initial response to change – you can have a “break”+”through” → breakthrough, and learn how to express yourself in a more constructive, results-oriented manner.
September 27th, 2020 – Mercury Enters Scorpio
On September 27th, 2020 Mercury enters Scorpio.
This is good news, not necessarily because an Air-friendly planet like Mercury likes it more in Scorpio, but because this ingress releases the tension on the cardinal cross.
Our mind becomes more inward-focused – time to process these past challenging weeks!
September 29th, 2020 – Saturn Goes Direct
On September 28th, 2020 Saturn goes direct at 25° Capricorn.
This is the very last leg of the long journey of Saturn in Capricorn, which started in December 2017 and ends in December 2020, when Saturn finally moves into Aquarius.
We all look so much forward to Saturn leaving Capricorn (probably even Saturn!). The coming months are your opportunity to close any loose ends in the Capricorn-ruled area of your chart.
September 29th, 2020 – Mars Squares Saturn
On September 29th, 2020, Mars is square Saturn.
This is a frustrating aspect that is oftentimes compared to having both the accelerator and the brake on at the same time.
Mars is the accelerator and Saturn is, of course, the brake.
This time though Mars is retrograde and Saturn is direct. So the acceleration is not really acceleration and the brakes are not really brakes. This Mars-Saturn square is unusual – not much about sluggish driving, but more about going in reverse.
You too can expect to gain a completely different perspective of your current situation.

Thank you so much for this article. It is a great read, as well as like other articles on your site.
I would like you to give us more information about people who have stellium of the planets in Capricorn and are the Capricorn sun sign.
Thank you in advance Tanja
Absolutely awesome. As ever Im grateful for
extraordinary planetary elucidations.
What if my natal Mars is retrograde in Aries? With transit Mars in Aries retrograding I’ll be even more driven to take action and will be busier?
This Mars-Saturn square is unusual – not much about sluggish driving, but more about going in reverse.
Reverse or perhaps in an alternate direction.
How will mars retrograde and that it squares Capricorn Cluster affect Virgo sign?
Thanks so much for this very helpful take on September.
I have a 17 degree Capricorn Sun and a 2 degree Capricorn Mars, but somehow this year has (so far) been one of my best years (in spite of what you write). Maybe the fact that I have my Moon in Scorpio in my 1st house and it squares Pluto in Leo in my 10th house indicates that I’m a “transformer” type of person. (I also Libra Rising and Chiron and Neptune in my 12th house, a Pisces Venus in 5th squaring Gemini Uranus in 8th). I have a water trine.
I’m 75 y.o., a late bloomer who’s started to study to be a life coach (especially since I can draw on the 33 years of severe depression/anxiety I had during my adult life). When I turned 59, I was given a prognosis of 2 years to Dialysis, but later that year I’d researched into Europe, found and switched to eating organic whole food. Plus I took a meditation workshop from Jon Kabat-Zinn (who brought Buddhist meditation into the U.S.) and upped my meditation to 45 minutes/day. Subsequently, within a couple of months I began having a series of 9 mystical experiences, which totally changed my life.
Then I had to spend years learning to finally “grow up”, and with Saturn and Pluto transiting my 4th house, I see I’ll have even more of this to do.
What I personally mean by “transforming” is that–first–something(s) will go very wrong, and then I’ll hurt very deeply, both psychologically and usually also physically. I call these days “my visit to HELL”. However, when I come out of Hell, I’ve transformed — I can see myself, my problems, and any hurtful things that have happened with people as having been necesssary for my growth and evolution.
I realize that September, October, November and December all contain some very difficult astrological challenges for me. So I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll be able to use my ability to transform to handle the difficult transits I’ll be experiencing.
Unfortunately, I have very little money, so there’s no way I can get assistance from you or another astrologer.
