Jupiter Is Now Direct – Expand Your Horizons

Life is good! Jupiter just turned direct after a 4-month hibernation period. What makes Jupiter’s direct motion so special is that it took place immediately after the Full Moon in Sagittarius. And Jupiter is Sagittarius’ ruling planet. What happens when the planet of luck, happiness and generosity turns direct? Life starts to move forward.

After 4 months of doubting our goals, hopes and dreams, it is time to start over again with full confidence. Jupiter direct is about going forward, no matter what. No dream is too high, no challenge is too  great for the God of all Gods!

Ready for the next big adventure of your life?

Jupiter direct

Anything we start in the days following June 9th (when Jupiter turned direct) will be blessed with Jupiter’s luck and good fortune . Especially if your relationships have been stagnant (Jupiter is in Libra, the sign of partnerships of all kind) now it is time to take action and bring them “back to life”.

If you have Sagittarius or Pisces ascendant, or planets or angles around 13° Libra you will benefit greatly from this energy.  Jupiter cycles starts every 12 years, so if you are 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96 years of age, you have your Jupiter return. During Jupiter return our desire to expand our horizons, our desire to travel, to experience the world, to learn and grow is stronger than ever.

Does Jupiter really bring good luck? Jupiter has always been associated with good fortunes. Jupiter, the protector of the Romans, the God of all Gods in Olympus, and the giant gas ball of our solar system is indeed linked to expansion, growth, and good fortune.

It is believed that the pull of Jupiter’s gravity has helped shape the fate of our solar system. In the early years of our solar system’s history, Jupiter, thanks to his immense gravitational field, has stopped asteroids form bombarding the smaller planets, including the Earth. We won’t be here without Jupiter!

Jupiter gives a sense of optimism and faith, being the official ruler of religion and missionaries. No matter how bad things get, Jupiter always brings a positive outlook. He truly believes that things can ultimately turn out well.

“People who wonder if the glass is half empty or half full, miss the point. The glass is refillable.”

Jupiter loves scale and he doesn’t like to stay small. He wants to go farther than anyone else. That’s why Jupiter rulers everything that is “higher” or “farther” – higher education, long distance travel, faraway and exotic places, foreigners, government and religion.

Under Jupiter’s beam, we are more keen to experience new places – either literally or with the mind’s eye – and to seek a higher meaning in everything we do. Our risk appetite also increases, as well as our sense of adventure – Jupiter transits are notorious for giving us a push to move into unknown territories.

When Jupiter goes over important points in our chart, we suddenly get more interested in different places, different cultures and different points of view. We get excited about the unexpected, about the possibility of discovering something new.

Does Jupiter trigger any point in your chart? Take a trip, read a book, or get in contact with a foreign culture. This is a good time to broaden your perspective and grow.

Saturn, Jupiter’s sky neighbor has been for a long time in Sagittarius, trying to temper Sagittarius’ notorious optimism. Saturn has been teaching the archer some valuable life lessons and although he hasn’t completed his mission yet, we are all less impressed with Saturn’s lessons. Right now, Jupiter direct, stronger than ever, is infusing everyone and everything with optimism and joie de vivre and as a result, Saturn’s power is starting to fade.  We’ve learned our lessons, thank you very much Saturn. We are now ready to move on.

The world is changing and our beliefs are changing too. Jupiter direct is giving us the enthusiasm we need to change what is not working, what is keeping us stagnant. Which hopes and dreams have you been neglecting? Jupiter direct is the sign you’ve been waiting for. Time to take action and make your dreams a reality!

In the spirit of Jupiter direct, in the following week I will be doing readings focused on relocation and travel astrology. In you are planning a move to a different city or country, or if you wonder which places are best to travel check out my Etsy store. Knowing your exact time of birth is required for this type of reading.

Five Planets Retrograde In April – How To Survive Them

In April we have a record number of 5 (FIVE) planets retrograde. The Universe is asking us to “sort out” our life and redefine our reality and how we operate in it. This retrograde period is “three-dimensional” as it will ask us to look at ourselves (our thoughts, our communication – Mercury and our set of values – Venus) at our environment (Jupiter and Saturn) and at how everything  fits together in the grand scheme of things (Pluto).

5 retrograde planets

When is so much retrograde power in the air, we need to slow down any pay attention. Old patterns of thinking and old habits that no longer serve us will be brought to our awareness and challenged.

What is even more interesting is that 4 planets out of the 5 actually change direction in April. Yes, only Jupiter is already retrograde and won’t change direction. All the other planets station and change direction in April, increasing their influence few days before and after their station:

  • Saturn turns retrograde on April 6th at 27° Sagittarius
  • Mercury turns retrograde on April 9th at 4° Taurus
  • Venus turns direct on April 15th at 26° Pisces
  • Pluto turns retrograde on April 20th at 19° Capricorn

So if you have planets or angles around 27° Sagittarius, 4° Taurus, 26° Pisces or 19° Capricorn you will be especially affected. Pay attention especially if you have planets around 26°-27° in any Mutable sign (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) because the square between Venus and Saturn, – both stationary – will hit you hard.

Retrograde periods are good times to remember, re-assess , re-think, repair ,  restructure, re-invent  anything that needs a “RE” in your life.

And although the world will seem to “slow down”,  for some of us things will feel “just right”. Yes, if you have in your natal chart 4, 5 or even more planets retrograde then you will rather feel “in sync” with this energy, especially if you have a combination of Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn or Pluto retrograde.

For people with none, 1 or maximum 2 planets retrograde, things will be quite different. For example, I don’t have any planet retrograde. Everytime there are 4 or more planets retrograde I feel very tired, that’s why I learned to schedule holidays around the retrogrades and take the opportunity to recharge my batteries.

Now let’s have a look at how to deal with each of these retrogrades – focus on the one affecting you the most:

Saturn and Venus (26°-27° mutable signs)

I group them together because they are at the same mathematical degree and in square – so if you have planets around 26-27° in Mutable signs both Venus and Saturn stations will affect you.

The transit is quite heavy and will very likely ask you to sort out some emotional baggage from your life – old lovers, events from the past, buried feelings of rejection, isolation, and loneliness.

“The only baggage you can bring is all that you can’t leave behind” – Venus square Saturn will ask you to do some soul searching and decide what are you going to keep in this baggage. What are those key values that you cannot live without?

Anything else can be left behind. Remember, you will carry this luggage for the rest of your life (or at least until you have another potent Venus transit) – so you want to keep it light. How much are you willing to carry on your back from now on?

Now is your opportunity to really incorporate the Saturnine lessons. Your heart will be stronger and wiser after this process. And because Chiron is conjunct Venus, the opportunity for healing is real. Old wounds may the toughest to heal, but it is when we take the courage to face them, that we can release them and set ourselves free.

What to do about Venus retrograde: Make a list with your values, everything that is dear to you. For each value associate an object. How much does the object weight? Write it down – how many pounds/kilos? Now sum everything up. How heavy it is? What do you need to cut from that list so you leave only few items that you can carry on lightly?

Mercury (4° Taurus)

The lesson of this Mercury station is sustained focus. A Mercury Taurus retrograde cycle is here to teach us to focus our mind and be resilient against distractions.

What to do about Mercury retrograde: Make a list with all the worries, all the distractions, all the unfinished tasks that clutter your mind and affect your focus. Then “schedule” 1 hour per day to solve them. You may notice that by simply writing down your unfinished tasks and worries on a piece of paper, by “acknowledging” them, your mind can finally relax and focus on things that are more important. You can do this exercise anytime, best to do it around April 19th when Mercury and Sun will be in an inferior conjunction. Later in April you may discover you have found some innovative solutions for some of your worries, as Mercury will spend quite a lot of time near Uranus.

Pluto (19° Capricorn)

Pluto will activate the Jupiter Uranus opposition, making this station very confrontational – BUT also thanks to the progressive energy of Jupiter and Uranus, this station will give you an unique opportunity to achieve great progress in the area of your life (the house) transited by Pluto.

When direct, Pluto transforms matter and energy from one state to another. When retrograde, Pluto purges the “toxins” from the body, the mind, the spirit, so that a new cycle of life can emerge. What needs to be purged from your life?  Pluto stationary retrograde will ask you to allow natural death to take its course for anything that no longer serves you.  Let nature have its way. You will not only “survive” without this debrief, but you will be better equipped for the future.

What to do about Pluto retrograde: Keep a diary and write down in detail each event, each thought, each feeling that triggers a defense mechanism inside you. For each of these items, write down what are you afraid of losing if you “submit” to change. And then write down what could be the possible “benefits” for each of these changes.

Jupiter Turns Retrograde – Keep The Faith

Jupiter will station and begin its 4-month retrograde period on February 6th 2017.

Jupiter turns retrograde at 23° Libra – if you have planets or angles around 23° in any sign (but especially Libra, Aries, Cancer, Capricorn, Gemini or Aquarius) this station, when the essence of Jupiter is at its strongest –will speak to you deeply. The same goes if your rising sign is in Sagittarius or Pisces, because Jupiter is your (co)chart ruler.

5-jupiter-retrograde

To get more insights about the area of your like that is going to be affected by the Jupiter station, have a look at which house Jupiter is currently transiting.  For example, Jupiter is transiting my sixth house – so I started to question my values about my lifestyle and nutrition (with a stellium in the 6th house, I am already a nutrition freak and eat very healthy, but there is always room for improvement;)

Jupiter is retrograde until the 9th of June when will station direct at  13° Libra.  Libras born between 2nd and 12th of October will benefit the most because Jupiter, the ‘grand benefic’  will conjunct their Sun three times!

Jupiter retrograde motion will effect all of us in some way or another. Jupiter retrograde will encourage us to reflect on the big questions of life and see things in different ways.  If Jupiter direct is the Preacher, Jupiter retrograde is the Devil’s advocate. In this context, the Devil’s advocate mission is take a closer look and question our beliefs, as well as the beliefs of our society.

When Jupiter slows down we will have the chance to see the details we missed when Jupiter was direct. Jupiter is now in an opposition to Uranus, so it’s very likely that the upcoming months will mark new discoveries, breakthroughs and unexpected turns of events. And because Jupiter is in Libra most of the breakouts will be in the areas of relationships and partnerships.

Jupiter retrograde in Libra is an invitation to keep our faith alive and strong, without losing sight of our purpose.

This retrograde of Jupiter is highly beneficial because it will start with a trine to the Sun, and it will end again with another trine to the Sun. In the middle of the retrograde, the tension will increase, as Jupiter will apply its 2nd opposition to Uranus on March the 2nd and the 2nd square to Pluto on March 30th.

Here is an overview of all the aspects Jupiter makes during the retrograde period:

  • February 11th  – Jupiter  at 23° Libra trine Sun at 23° Aquarius
  • February 21stJupiter at 22° Libra trine Mercury at 22° Aquarius
  • February 27thJupiter at 22° Libra opposite Mars at 22° Aries
  • March 2ndJupiter at 22° Libra opposite Uranus at 22° Aries
  • March 24thJupiter at 20° Libra opposite Mercury at 20° Aries
  • March 30th  – Jupiter at 19° Libra square Pluto at 19° Capricorn
  • April 7thJupiter at 18° Libra opposite Sun  at 18° Aries
  • May 12thJupiter at 14° Libra trine Mars at 14° Gemini
  • May 19thJupiter at 13° Libra opposite Venus at 13° Aries
  • June 3rdJupiter at 13° Libra trine Sun at 13° Gemini
  • June 9thJupiter turns direct at 13° Libra

The Jupiter Uranus opposition and the Jupiter Pluto square will make the upcoming months rather energy draining. Keep the faith and remember that the darkness always turns to light.

Jupiter Opposite Uranus – A Cosmic High Five

Jupiter in Libra is opposite Uranus in Aries. This is one of the most important transits of the decade – it only takes place every 14 years! – and it is exact on the following dates:

December 25th, 2016 – at 20° (Jupiter direct, Uranus retrograde)

March 2nd, 2017 – at 22° (Jupiter retrograde, Uranus direct)

September 27th, 2017 – at 27° (Jupiter direct, Uranus retrograde)

This is one of the most exciting transits you can experience and it will bring rapid changes and breakthroughs of all kinds.

jupiter-opposite-uranus

Jupiter is the great benefactor, the king of all gods, who magnifies everything it touches, while Uranus is the rebel, the freedom-seeker, the reformer and the revolutionary. Together, the two symbolize the faith and the courage to break free from the old and reinvent new ways of living, new social habits.

This is a very progressive aspect. Things are likely to happen in a BIG scale and impact our society as a whole.

In 1989 when we had the Jupiter Uranus oppposition on the Cancer Capricorn axis, the Berlin wall and the Communism collapsed and the Cold War was declared over. South Africa’s new prime minister F.W. de Klerk started to dismantle the apartheid regime. The successful Galileo spacecraft was launched in 1989, to be purposefully destroyed 14 years later, in 2003, exactly at the time of the next Jupiter Uranus opposition. No coincidences in astrology 😉

In 2003 when we had again a Jupiter Uranus opposition this time on the Virgo Pisces axis, the US space shuttle Colombia crashed, and the U.S. and Britain launched war against Iraq. This opposition showed another manifestation of the Jupiter Uranus energy. However we notice some common themes: profound changes in societal structures, taking a stand, revolutions, techonological progress, space discoveries, imprudence.

This Jupiter Uranus opposition is on the Aries Libra axis, signifying a revolution in relationships and partnerships, as well as opportunities for those looking for new relationships and partnerships. If you’re single, things can now move really speedily! Single or committed, Jupiter opposite Uranus is good news if if you’ve been feeling stuck in love or if you want to move your relationship to the next level.

However, let’s not forget that an opposition is an opposition and it will bring friction. Jupiter in Libra  wants us to cooperate with others in an optimistic and generous way. Uranus in Aries wants an “I did it my way” type of freedom – and  is not that interested in pleasing others.

As a result, we can feel a conflict between our desire to fit in and be a team player, and the desire to express our unique self.

Also, we can feel restless or bored if our everyday life does not allow us the freedom we need to achieve the highest possible version of ourselves. This is because during this transit we WILL feel an urge to improve ourselves, to make things better. Our energy levels can be very high and we may be more impulsive than usual.

Like with any Uranus transit, changes will come, and the best way to prepare for Uranus is not to prepare at all. When you are ready to accept an outcome, any outcome, when you allow the unexpected to happen, this is when you realize the full potential of every moment.

The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom – William Blake

To determine how the Jupiter Uranus transit will affect you personally, note the houses where the oppposition falls in your natal chart, as well as any aspect that one or both planets do to your natal placements.

If you have planets around 20-28° in Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) – especially Sun, Moon, Venus, Mercury, Mars, the Ascendant, the Midheaven, or if your natal Jupiter makes an aspect with your natal Uranus you will especially be in the focus.

“It’s not for sale at any price” – Jupiter Square Pluto

Rick: [about his club] “It’s not for sale”

Ferrari: “You haven’t heard my offer”

Rick: “It’s not for sale at any price”

This quote from the classic movie Casablanca is a great metaphor for what the upcoming Jupiter square Pluto stands for. A powerful and elegant answer to the even more classical “I will make you an offer you can’t refuse” (from the movie Godfather), Jupiter – Pluto speaks of those things in life that are non-negotiable. Real power, real strength, real character, strong beliefs ARE non-negotiable.

jupiter-square-pluto

This transit also speaks about faith. When we have faith, we know things will turn out the way they are supposed to, beyond dear and beyond uncertainty.

Jupiter is in Libra and Pluto is in Capricorn. Libra and Capricorn are cardinal signs – Libra rules partnerships and relationships, while Capricorn is about the way we want to project ourselves into the world. When in square, we will be torn between “saving our relationships” and “saving our face”. When everything becomes a matter of principle, it is impossible to compromise.

On a positive side, Pluto’s (king on the underworld) intensity combined with Jupiter (‘larger than life’ king of all gods), gives us the strength to overcome any obstacle. Together the two will give us a tremendous drive to succeed, no matter what.

On a more negative note, Jupiter/Pluto square can turn into, “I’m right and you’re wrong”, my faith, religion, beliefs, are superior to yours. Our desire to compete and win can be stronger than any reason. Mixing with people from different cultures or backgrounds can lead to disputes. Religious mania or extremism are possible outcomes if we remain single-minded.

Because a square is a square, it is likely we will face some sort of tests and challenges in our quest for success – but it is through these challenges that we will become even stronger and more resilient.

All in all, transiting Jupiter square Pluto makes us want to succeed, and succeed big-time. And because we want it so bad, it is highly likely we WILL succeed. Success, power and influence are all possible now – just keep in mind that, no matter what Rick says, there will always be a price to pay 😉

Leonard Cohen had an almost exact Jupiter / Pluto square (0°03’) in his natal chart. His music, for example the song Hallelujah, evokes the “battle” of spirituality, religion, higher purpose (Jupiter) and the deep, soul-searching call for the Truth, beyond any dogma or ideology (Pluto).

People with planets or angles around 19° in Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) are especially affected by this transit.

Jupiter Opposite Chiron

jupitar-opposite-chiron

We won’t have this aspect in the next 60 years so this might be our very unique opportunity to learn about how to grow into a greater human being by taking a look a closer look at ourselves, and learning to accept ourselves with all our scars and imperfections.

The opposition takes place on the Virgo Pisces axis, the axis of self development and service. Because Jupiter is involved, the lesson we learn now is one of generosity and kindness. We can only give to others if we learn to give to ourselves.

Kindness ultimately is not a skill to be mastered, we all have it inside ourselves, but we can only cultivate it if we accept the idea of being without any expectations.

Juno In Scorpio

Juno, the wife of Jupiter and the queen of all gods, just entered Scorpio. In astrology, Juno represents the “good wife”. Jupiter cheated on Juno again and again, yet she still stayed with him, and fulfilled her traditional duties.

In almost all schools of astrology, Juno is associated with commitment, marriage, and legal contracts in general – In Magi astrology however, Juno is the symbol of the mistress. Whether we go with the traditional symbolism, or with the Magi ideas, with Juno there seems to be some stickiness to “what is written in the contract” on what we are liable for, even if we feel the contract does not serve our best purposes.

juno-in-scorpio
The Dance of Life by Edvard Munch

In Scorpio, Juno wants to find the truth. She will ‘check on’ her husband Jupiter even more than she usually does. Shallowness and superficiality in relationships are not to be tolerated during the transit of Juno in Scorpio. If in Libra, Juno wants to save her marriage, in Scorpio, Juno would rather divorce than be cheated on or treated with disrespect.

Those of you who are interested in astronomy might have heard of NASA’s Juno mission. Juno is the name the scientist gave the spacecraft sent on mission to Jupiter. Interestingly (and from an astrological perspective, not at all a coincidence 😉 Juno entered Jupiter’s obit exactly at the time she started her transit in Scorpio. And what’s the Juno spacecraft doing? Now that it is in Jupiter’s orbit it will be peering beneath the clouds to uncover Jupiter’s secrets – from a scientific perspective, just like from an astrological perspective, Juno will ‘check on’ her partner to see if he or she is worthy of her devotion.
