Astrology Of May 2019 – Opportunities

With Saturn and Pluto going retrograde right next to each other, we can all agree that April has been a pretty heavy month.

Many things may have come to an end in your life. You may have had to let go of something you held dear. Leaving the past behind is never easy, no matter how much awareness we have.

The good news is that May is much more upbeat than April! It is not that May is less intense – with a Full Moon in Scorpio and with Mercury and Venus conjunct Uranus – we will for sure have our share of fun! May will be intense… but it will certainly be less heavy.

May also comes with some amazing opportunities 😉

If there is one word to describe the month of May, that is ‘opportunity’. Why so?

  • In May we have Uranus and Venus (the father and the daughter) together in Taurus – for the first time in 80 years!
  • Mercury will also be conjunct Uranus in Taurus again, for the first time in 80 years.
  • We have an intense Full Moon in Scorpio opposite the fixed star Algol.
  • And we’re also in the middle of the Mercury cycle, with Sun conjunct Mercury at 0° Gemini. There is no better place for Mercury to be in. Yes to Mercury!

May 1st – May 3rd, 2019 – Mercury Square Saturn, Pluto And The Lunar Nodes

May 2019 starts on a pretty tense tone though, with Mercury applying to Saturn, Pluto, and the Nodes, forming a cardinal T-square.

We have had Saturn conjunct Pluto and the South Node for a while now, but just like in physics, nothing happens until something moves.

And right now, the ‘thing that moves’ is Mercury. Mercury will activate the Saturn-Pluto-Nodes configuration and will get things into motion. Change is coming and is coming fast.

May 5th, 2019 – New Moon In Taurus

On May 5th, 2019, we have a New Moon at 14° Taurus. Every New Moon is your opportunity to complete a chapter and start a new one.

This New Moon is in Taurus, and Taurus is the ‘producer’ of the zodiac. Taurus has this magic ability to turn something ephemeral like an idea, into something real. The New Moon in Taurus is a time to get focused and produce! It’s time to get real.

What makes this New Moon in Taurus even more special is that it’s the first New Moon in Taurus with Uranus there

May 6th, 2019 – Mercury Enters Taurus

On May 6th, 2019 Mercury enters Taurus. Mercury spends only 14 days in Taurus. This means that Mercury is now at its maximum speed.

Taurus, on the other hand, loves to take its time. Taurus wants to create something of quality, something that lasts. He hates to be rushed.

Yet, Mercury storms through like a whirlwind.

Are you familiar with the term ‘minimum viable product’? The idea is to create something that is ‘good enough’ to do the job, yet not super sophisticated. The idea is to test if it works and get quick feedback. Of course, you don’t want to create a total flop either.

You want to create just the right amount of value, without complicating things too much. In the next two weeks, Mercury in Taurus will help you find the balance between over-doing and under-doing.

May 7th – May 9th, 2019 – Venus Square Saturn, Pluto And The Nodes

Between May 7th, 2019 and May 9th, 2019 Venus in Aries squares Saturn, Pluto, and the Lunar Nodes. We have yet another T-square in cardinal signs.

Venus is what is important to us, Saturn is the planet of time, and the Nodes of the Moon are our karma and our life’s purpose.

As we advance in age, we feel we have less and less time to do things that are important to us. As we grow old, we regret we haven’t taken our chances when they came along.

The Venus T-square will remind us of those things that are important to us. And the cardinal square will ‘force’ us to take action. Indeed, we don’t have all the time in the world. The time is now.

May 8th, 2019 – Mercury Conjunct Uranus In Taurus

On May 8th, 2019, Mercury is conjunct Uranus at 3° Taurus. The best things in our lives usually start with a great idea. Because it takes time to make that idea happen, we oftentimes forget how we got started.

Yet, when the opportunity arises, you just know it. You can feel it in the air.  Today is one of those days when you can land that great idea that could change the course of your life.

That’s especially if you have planets or angles around 3° in Taurus or Scorpio. Did I mention this is the first time in 80 years we have Mercury conjunct Uranus?

May 15th, 2019 – Venus Enters Taurus

On May 15th, 2019 Venus enters Taurus. This is great news because Venus is in her night domicile in Taurus.

Not only Venus is in her favorite sign, but also it’s the first time in 80 years that Venus shares Taurus with her mythological father, Uranus.

If you are familiar with the Greek myth, you may know that Venus never actually met her father. She was birthed just after her father was killed by Saturn.

That’s why Venus-Uranus meetings are so important. Venus will finally meet her father. In May, Venus will come to a reconciliation with her identity.

What does that mean for you? Venus is what you hold dear to your heart, what matters to you.

May is your opportunity to understand the reason why you value what you value. If getting married is very important to you, now you can understand why that is. If having a family is important to you, now you will understand why.

May 16th, 2019 – Mars Enters Cancer

On May 16th, 2019 Mars enters Cancer. Mars is the planet of action, and Cancer is the sign of privacy and security – Cancer is our comfort zone, as well as our close family and cultural upbringing.

Cancer is also a cardinal sign, and all cardinal signs love to take action. What kind of action? Anything that is concerned with preserving its identity, family, and culture.

Mars in Cancer may seem emotional and fragile, but he’s hard as a rock and he will not hesitate to skewer you with his claws if he feels threatened. The coming 6 weeks are a good time to draw stronger boundaries and fight for what is important to you.

May 18th, 2019 – Full Moon In Scorpio

On May 18th, 2019, we have a Full Moon at 27° Scorpio. On the same day, Venus is conjunct Uranus at 3° Taurus.

The Sun is conjunct the fixed star Algol, the head of Medusa. Algol is a very powerful fixed star and when she activates a personal planet, we can feel as invincible as Medusa’s head.

According to the myth, the blood from Medusa’s left side was poisonous and the blood from the right side was used to heal.

The Full Moon opposite Algol is a reminder that power comes with responsibility. You can use your power to poison or to heal. Full Moon in Scorpio plus Algol plus Venus conjunct Uranus will certainly make for a Full Moon to remember.

May 21st, 2019 – Sun Conjunct Mercury

On May 21st, 2019, both Sun and Mercury enter Gemini. The superior conjunction exactly at 0° Gemini which is great, because Mercury is at home in Gemini. 0° of any sign is the most potent degree – at 0°, anything is possible.

When Mercury direct is conjunct the Sun, we are in the middle of the 116-day Mercury cycle. This is a good time to bring to life a project we started at the beginning of the Mercury cycle, on March 15th, 2019.

May 29th, 2019 – Mercury Square Neptune

On May 29th, 2019, Mercury in Gemini squares Neptune in Pisces. Both Mercury and Neptune are in their home signs, so they are both very powerful and willing to impose their agendas.

What will win, reason (Mercury) or imagination (Neptune)? According to Einstein, “imagination is more important than knowledge”. But as a Pisces himself, Einstein may have been a bit biased.

To make the best out of this energy, do a bit of both. Allow your imagination to guide you, but when things get really slippery, remember to do a reality check.

May 31st, 2019 – Mercury Opposite Jupiter

May ends with a powerful battle between Mercury in Gemini and Jupiter in Sagittarius. Again, both Mercury and Jupiter are in their home signs, motivated to push their agenda. Jupiter’s agenda is to keep the faith, to believe, no matter what. Mercury’s agenda is to doubt everything and keep looking.

“There are two ways to slide easily through life; to believe everything or doubt everything. Both ways save us from thinking.” Alfred Korzybski

As with everything, the key is to reconcile our differences. That’s how we grow, that’s how we evolve.

  1. This is an extremely helpful article for me, which I will print out. My whole life is changing drastically. I have to move to a more rural area because I’ve started getting symptoms of electrosensitivity (from the 36 digital smart meters in a room next to my apartment, which replaced the analog meters some 1 1/2+ years ago). And, since I live in a large city suburb of Chicago, 5G small cell antennas will be installed sometime soon. At a healthy-otherwise 74, my body and brain cannot take any more EMF radiation.

So I’m visiting an incredibly progressive town in SE Iowa from 5/13 thru 5/17, where the university nearby and some of the restaurants and businesses have switched from WiFI (with its attendent radiation) to FIBER OPTICS (no radiation, the glass cables buried in the ground).

Not only that, the town has a year-round farmers market, many foreign food restaurants, and a sizeable minority of the population of 11,000 are meditators. It’s surrounded by organic farms, and–increasingly–Regenerative Agriculture farms (which will reverse Climate Change by putting the carbon in the air back into the ground.
(Meditation and switching to eating organic veggies, fruits and grass-fed organic chicken and eggs is how I got over the severe depression I’d had for some 35 years.)

So, your title “Opportunities” is entirely appropriate for my current life and plans.
I am so grateful for your excellent interpretations of the not-so-easy science and art of Astrology.

    Sally

    1. That’s a truly amazing opportunity Sally! That town sounds fantastic. We can use the progressive energy of Uranus in Taurus to harm ourselves the environment (5g) or to create a thriving community like the one you describe
